Regardless, it seems to me that those who were frothing angry about Sony should be frothing mad about Steam...but Valve will probably get a pass because OMGTF2&HL2!!1! and Sony is evil incarnate.
It also helps that it was a statement from Gabe directly apologizing instead of a lesser person at the company going "OMGLOL, like I dunno how that could have happened. We keep the door locked and stuff."

I get that, but I'd assume any company would have learned from what happened with Sony. It's easy for Steam to say "oh well their public announcement didn't go over well, we better do it better."

Nothing is unhackable. Nothing. It doesn't matter if you have 10 people working on security or 10,000. There will always be more people trying to break in than are trying to keep people out. Some might not be directly trying to hack something, but things carry over. IMHO it's better that Gabe said "Sorry, we fucked up and we're working on it" and leave it at that then Sony not admitting everything and trying to cover it up.

I'm not saying it isn't a terrible thing, just that a matter of fact apology and statement it is being worked on is better than coverup and finger pointing.

And how come I didn't get a similar e-mail or message from Valve? I've certainly paid them enough money. EDIT: I see it's on the forums main page now. Still, an e-mail notice would have been nice.
You get a pop-up message on Steam.

Cmon, you guys. Give them a break. Valve has been under a lot of pressure lately and they just needed to let off a little steam.

I care not about down time, but I'm extremely worried. I don't care that Sony got hacked, I do care that they botched the cleanup afterwards.

To be honest I think it may have been someone from the Steam community, have you guys been in the Steam forums? They have some of the most whiny, bitter users I've ever seen in the internet. You can't imagine how many people I've seen raging towards Valve about being unable to get a refund due to many reasons (I saw a guy asking for a refund because he saw Xbox 360 buttons for like 3 seconds on a game, I think it was Hydrophobia).

While I'm not blowing it off it does seem different then what happened with the PSN in a few key ways.

But no matter what, I'll be checking my bank account a little more this week.

You've described every official forum everywhere. It's the same on the WoW boards and the LoL boards.
