There are lots of crazy people in the world. Spouting hyperbole like that out in public around people you don't know is a bad idea. Totally different from doing so around your friends that know you are joking. Even before people lost their ability to reason because of 9-11, if he had said the same sort of thing in an airport or in reference to a world leader he would have been in deep shit.Zing wrote:"I put my hand up to my head and said look I’m so pissed right now I could blow this place up right now. Somehow this translates to "Man threatens to blow up store"?

I would have made a big stink by demanding a refund, and hopefully get a gift card out of it. Since they did not have the game as promised he could have badgered management for some kind of freebie, but instead he's looking at charges.
Your a lemming if you go out an buy the newest CoD game for full price at launch anyways. Spend your money how you want, but your just shelling out for a new coat of paint, it's the same online experience as the last few games, which still have tens of thousands of players.

I am not the most informed on the subject, but from what I understand, these games now have MMO aspects, where you level up and unlock weapons and abilities. Due to this, the incentive to get the game as early as possible is strong. Players do not want to fall behind their friends or opponents.Bikeage wrote:Your a lemming if you go out an buy the newest CoD game for full price at launch anyways.

I could be wrong, but I think he means the game offers nothing new in comparison to its predecessor. Why switch to 3 when 2 is perfectly fine, in other words.Zing wrote:I am not the most informed on the subject, but from what I understand, these games now have MMO aspects, where you level up and unlock weapons and abilities. Well, if all my friends played the newest CoD, it would be worth the money to me to et the newest game, because then none of my friends would be playing with me if I didn't.
I'm not a CoD fan at all, but I think its a bit unfair to say that these games don't change at all. I'm sure there are a lot of changes that we just don't see, because we don't play the games.
I could have a "Bro Gamer" try out a bunch of my shmups, and he'd probably think that they were all extreamly similar. I could give them 100 reasons why they aren't, but from an outside perspective, he'd still have a point.
Not that that has anything to do with blowing up a store, or threatening to do so. Thats stupid, no matter what kind of games you play.

Well said. I'm not a CoD fan either but I played through World at War and played its multiplayer extensively in college (especially Nazi Zombies). When I saw some of my friends playing MW2 the gameplay was incredibly different. I think alternating between developers Infinity Ward and Treyarch is brilliant in keeping the series appear fresh. I think we a retrogamers should take the high ground and not be automatically dismissive of genres we don't particularly appreciate as none of us enjoy when other people automatically dismiss games we enjoy for superficial reasons.dunpeal2064 wrote:I'm not a CoD fan at all, but I think its a bit unfair to say that these games don't change at all. Did you guys watch the video interview they had? I would be damn well pissed too if I were that guy. He seemed like a reasoned individual as well and like he mentions, it was just a poor choice of words on his part. It's just one of those things you say without even thinking.
Best Buy is the real villain in this situation -- they completely screwed that guy over and lost his service. Plus they wouldn't even comment on the event which only goes to show they knew they were in the wrong and called the cops on this guy because he was hasseling them for not doing their job.
Don't get me wrong, I think MW3 is a load of crap and so is whoever's dumb enough to want to buy a $108 special edition-- but come on. Don't tell me any of you wouldn't have been as pissed as he was if you were in his situation?

If it was something I wanted, yes I'd be pissed they screwed up. If I were really pissed or caught up in the moment I might even call them motherfuckers and assholes. I would not however make threats (idle or otherwise) about harming anyone.Sideroller wrote:Don't tell me any of you wouldn't have been as pissed as he was if you were in his situation?
