G4TV: Yay or Nay?

Post by Sideroller »

Any one here watch this channel? I used to really be into watching Attack of the Show and X-Play a couple years back, but since I moved into college and only get like 15 channels of cable I haven't watched it much recently.

I stopped watching a little before Olivia Munn left. Back then the show was kind of pandery - but still mostly funny in my opinion -- but looking at all the female hosts they have on now and all the ridiculous shit they put them through....it's just tough to watch without bursting a blood vessel. I feel like they completely objectify the hosts--and there's that blonde chick (can't remember her name at the moment) the one that does "the Feed" who just acts like a total ditzy nerdboner. She just shamelessly goes along with whatever puerile crap they tell her too.

Oh! I also can't stand how they started that "American" Ninja Warrior contest. Completely ruined that show for me. I don't want to see Americans doing the course - I wanna see crazy Japanese people falling into stuff with over the top narration.

And I don't even watch X-play anymore because I don't own a next-gen console.

anyways, thoughts? Opinions?

Before they took it off DirecTV, I watched it. It has gotten to be pretty crap. It's mostly COPS and Cheaters, with like an hour and a half of interesting stuff a day. I still use the website though.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Well, I used to watch it back in the day. I haven't bothered in years.

I always enjoyed Cheat! (not Cheaters, Cheat!), but that was partially for the content of the show which was sometimes interesting, and mostly because the host, Kristin Holt, was just drop dead gorgeous.

I occasionally watched X-play if they were covering games I was interested in, but a lot of the time I didn't bother. I could look up relevant info myself a lot faster, and I was spared the "comedy" segments of the show.

I did like to watch Cinematech (both versions). That was always fun.

Also, I've always hated Attack of the Show. I've never understood what people see in that show, nor do I understand what people see in Olivia Munn. Though reading your post, I guess she's gone now? The show already irritated me, so if its even worse now I have triple the reason to ignore it.

If I tune in to G4 at all now, its to watch a bit of Ninja Warrior if I'm in the mood (not often anymore) or just to catch bits and pieces when they do live coverage for stuff like E3.

Yeah E3 coverage is about all they're good for. Before I thought Olivia Munn was great but recently, and about the time I quite watching, her personality just got more and more and more pandersome - to the point everything about her just seemed fake and annoying. Don't get me started on the "book" she "wrote" either.

Also Kristin Holt IS drop dead gorgeous -- too bad she's taken. :P

One of the things I've always hated about G4 back when I watched it was that 95% of their programming was boring, mindless, drivel like COPS or Cheaters. How is that in any way related to the purpose of your channel? They have diversified a bit since then, but...

G4: Nay

TechTV: Yay!

Seriously though, the only reason I still tune into G4 is to watch the occasional X-Play segment. Other than that I find most of the stuff on pretty skip-able, although the same could be said for much of X-Play. I just enjoyed the show more up until about a year or so ago. When they were on TechTV I thought they were great and I loved watching their reviews even though I didn't own any of the current systems. Now their comedy writers seem to have taken a hit and they have a new, pointless co-host who truly baffles me. *shrugs* I don't know. They do still have some pretty good reviews though, so there is that.

Do you mean that Blair guy? Yeah, I have no idea what his purpose is.

As for TechTV -- I didn't get the chance to watch it much back then. I remember they some RobotWars show that I was addicted to. Where they built those little Robots and killed each other. Awww man, good times.

Yes! Blair! That's his name. See. He's so pointless that I've blocked most of his existence out of my mind.

And I'd forgotten about RobotWars! That stuff was awesome. That just cements my belief that TechTV was just better in general. X-Play was still good. RobotWars was just fun. They threw in an hour of decent Anime during the week and they had that show (can't for the life of me remember the name) were they had relevant (gasp!) information on how to fix/work on your computer.....Now I really miss TechTV :(

I loved G4 when it actually focused on gaming, tech, and the internet. I absolutely LOVED Icons. X-Play is good, glad that's still there at least. And they're still good when it comes to E3 coverage, and while they should focus on the comics more it's the ONLY non-internet coverage of Comic-Con.
