Obviously I won't be playing it again. I'm pretty weird.

You should test out the TR games via emulation first, and if you like them, buy them. That way you don't have to buy what you don't like.noiseredux wrote:I thought of something else I do that's kind of silly. I hang on to Together Retro games that I didn't even like. I have a handful of games I don't play, but 99% of my meager collection are games that I like and enjoy playing.

^I always TRY to stick with the TR game for the entire month, even if I don't like it at first.
Re: Another one of those threads about overwhelming collecting
My point was not to not play it, but rather to play it emulated only if you don't like it.noiseredux wrote:^I always TRY to stick with the TR game for the entire month, even if I don't like it at first.
Speaking of TR, I really need to start on Shining Force. I should do that tonight.

You're not alone, I do the same exact thing. I still have a copy of PSX Star Wars: Dark Forces and I didn't really care for the game much. I just had a hard time getting into that game and I stuck with it until about the 5th level.noiseredux wrote:I thought of something else I do that's kind of silly. ...honestly I don't know I'm just having a tough time deciding what to keep and what to purge. I feel a bit buried under my collection and yet keep getting more stuff. I have a tough time decide WHICH port of a game to own... and I know I don't need several ports of a single game.[/quote]the only ports of Rayman 2 which i do not have are the Dreamcast, 3(DS) and the Gameboy Color versions
Re: Another one of those threads about overwhelming collecting
Okay, 1st off, I have not read this entire thread (stopped midway through the 2nd page).
2nd, because of that, I'll understand if no one reads my input.
But I relate to this like everyone else seems too.
I currently have a collection of almost 1800 games (according to my gamefaqs "My Games" profile, which I have been fairly diligent in updating).
That's probably more games than I'll ever be able to play. And as such, I've just halted most of my game buying (I'm happy with what I've got and I'm broke anyways, so it kind of works out).
However, I've always liked having a big collection of games. It's like having an entire library and thinking "Hmm, what do I want to play today?".
Also, I really feel that I had a definite reason for buying each game, and I fully hope and intend to rediscover that reason for every game one day.
...and that's another thing, "Rediscovery". It's so neat to go through your collection and think "Oh wow, I forgot I had this; I'm going to give this a spin".
So I've come to terms with the old predicament. I'm done buying, except for the rare "must play now" purchase. And I'm enjoying myself just going through everything I have.
(as a side note, I supplement my physical game diet with emulation, whether it be games I don't feel like digging out, games I haven't come across, or just want to play it on a given system or portable).
(another side note, as far as digital purchases, GOG tends to get me to spend a few $$ here and there, regardless of my current views on the matter).

Oh wow thank you so much for mentioning this. I didn't even realize it existed! I've been looking for something similar to this for cataloging my collection for a while!nightrnr wrote: I currently have a collection of almost 1800 games (according to my gamefaqs "My Games" profile, which I have been fairly diligent in updating).
My collection's really tiny compared to most people on here (after my recent big sale I'm down to a mere 123 games

use RFGeneration instead man. You can submit variants or homebrew/indie releases, etc.AppleQueso wrote:Oh wow thank you so much for mentioning this. I didn't even realize it existed! My collection's really tiny compared to most people on here (after my recent big sale I'm down to a mere 123 games), so I can't really say I relate too well to the topic at hand. I'm actually looking to build my collection UP as opposed to trimming it down. I'd love to simply have a huge library of games to choose from at my leisure.
There's even an android app so you can easily check yr collection from yr phone.
