I forgot ps3 could play ps1 games!!!

Will we ever see ps3 play ps2 again? Why ps1 is ok but ps2 is not ok?
Will the ps4 plays ps2+ps1?
I think the next generation ps4 should be strong enough to play ps1+ps2 games in emulation. PS2 is 10yr old technology after all. I dont care about ps3 backward support for some reason. I dunno why.

Ps1 emulation isn't too terribly intensive I imagine. I mean hell even the Dreamcast can emulate Ps1 decently enough.

They removed Ps2 hardware to cut costs because the ps3 wasn't doing too well at the time. I doubt they'll ever bring it back, Sony probably sees little point in it.

They took it out because they do not want anyone playing ps2 games, they want people to buy ps3 games. I´m not buying the price story. I mean, how much does ps2 engine really cost? Not much!
And look, now they are offering ps2 games again so you can pay for them again! $$
I used to play on my ps3 90% ps2 games, 5% ps1 games and 5% ps3 games, so after 2 ylod´s I just got a freemcbooted ps2 with built in hd and it is now my entertainment center. ps2 games on internal hd, also connected is an external hd with movies, tv-shows and lots of music. I don´t need a ps3 at all. Well, perhaps for Daytona when it will eventually reach Europe....

Yeah, and they offer ps1 games as downloads too yet they didn't bother taking out ps1 compatibility. I really don't buy this idea that they removed it purely out of spite.

Well, they can at least put one out like ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION that will play ps2 games i bet it will sell like crazy. Also its almost over for ps3, its in the final years so how could it hurt ps3 game sales.

For some games on the PS1 and PS2, interlaced is used to run the game at 60FPS. One example of an interlaced game on the PS1 is Tekken 3. I don't know if the game is actually fast enough to ever hit 60FPS, but it makes an attempt and natively runs interlaced with a different scene in each of the 60 fields.

Although many of you probably have read it, Tobias Reich has a short discussion about using the PS3 for PS1 games in his massive retro game video processing page here [towards the bottom].

I always just play PS1 games on my PS1. Less wear on my PS2 or PS3, and 100% compatibility. Don't like the PS3's smoothing option, makes it look smeared like someone else said.
