I'm really trying to narrow down some specific info for those hardcore Neo Geo fans out there.
I enjoy the Neo Geo just like everyone else but like most, really can't afford the luxury. But what I have found is some great alt. Both the compilation discs and Neo Geo CD. For me the load times are not bad comparied to growing up trying to load a game of the Atari 800xl with cassettes.
My first question: Are the more current compilation discs as good as the AES versions? Also, along those same lines are there differences? For example, on most Saturn vs. PSOne titles are some Neo Geo CD versions better then what I own on the compilation discs?
Ones I own:
Wii - Metal Slug, The King of Fighters, & Samurai Showdown Anthology.
PS2 - Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol 1 & 2, & World Heroes Anthology.
And lastly, what games am I missing? Some that are on my list is Double Dragon, NAM '75, and The Super Spy.
I also own one import fighter and that's Savage Reign, which came with the system. I'm a huge fan of fighters, as you can see, and don't mind imports. Which is almost all NGCD games anyways ...
And second:

I can say this, you need to pick up Windjammers (aka. Flying Power Disc). It isn't too expensive, so that's good. I think it might also be on the Wii VC, but I never recommend VC stuff since you can't transfer between systems without sending your Wii into Nintendo. The only way to actually physically own the game in on a NG system.
Twinkle Star Sprites is a great game, but is a bit pricier. Still, the NGCD version is the cheapest I believe. It is also on the Saturn and DC. No version is exactly cheap, unfortunately.
Sonic Wings/Aero Fighter 2 is a decent shooter that is inexpensive on the NGCD.
The PS2 and Wii versions are generally perfect versions of games (although the Metal Slug Anthology does have some minor issues), but there is nothing like playing an original version on a NG console. Metal Slug is actually affordable on the NGCD (as in $50+). You can also get an original NG joystick for the system if you want, in addition to the control pads.
Just a few ideas for you.
In the future, you might want to consider an AES or MVS. The older and common AES games (pretty much all the games you listed, other than the Metal Slugs) are affordable at $20-50 each. If you want the later high-end games, the MVS versions are really the only way to get NG versions if you are not rolling in extra cash. The CD versions of the later games really do have absolutely unbearable loading times if they were even released on CD (later KoF games, Last Blade 1/2, Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug 3, 4, 5, etc.).

I did include the idea that these games (well, not LB1) were not released on CD, although I wasn't specific.me wrote:If you want the later high-end games, the MVS versions are really the only way to get NG versions if you are not rolling in extra cash. Re: Neo Geo CD game request
I know. Just wanted to reiterate for the person who created this topic that they are not ported to the Neo CD format, but all those mentioned are conveniently found on PS2
Re: Neo Geo CD game request
Cool, and yup; all on PS2. I think just Windjammers/Flying Power Disc and Twinkle Star Sprites are the ones that are not on any modern console (I do not count the VC, as Nintendo's policy on downloadables is absolute bullocks).CD AGES wrote:I know. Re: Neo Geo CD game request
What PS2 compilation has Last Blade 2?
I've found that outside of the SNK Classics Vol 1, the compilations play better on the PS2 over the Wii. That was the consensus from reviews I read when comparing.
I don't normally do anything with the VC, but where else are you going to be able to get Street Slam?
I didn't realize Windjammers was on there - shame on me.

Re: Neo Geo CD game request
You can also get SVC chaos on the original xbox (US), much cheaper than the AES cart.
Or import it on the JPN ps2.
But in terms of modern Neo Fighters, SVC Chaos AES isn't that expensive ($300 for a brand new US version)

Still kicking myself for passing on that game when it was $199 in the neostore. Would have been awesome to add to my AES library.shallowgamer wrote:You can also get SVC chaos on the original xbox (US), much cheaper than the AES cart.
