Your analysis is interesting yet fundamentally flawed.
Look at the history of video games. The industry as we know it, that is, as it took shape after the "crash", is based on rigid, profit-driven, top-down business practices. While some of the things you list are undoubtedly "shady" or "dishonest", Nintendo's monopoly in the late 1980s, to take just one of the countless examples, was found to be illegal in a court of law. It doesn't take much for someone to realize how the video game industry manages to be so profitable and to want a piece of the pie. GameStop is a symptom, not a cause.
And no, it isn't self-evident that the industry has to be that way, that you can't have video games without an E3 where CEOs (that is, handshaking money men) are celebrated as if it were money market operations that make video games fun. And alot of people will tell you that in their need to access as many wallets as possible, the games of today are become sterile, boring and geared to the lowest common denominator.

We tend to avoid necroing threads. Especially when we have a similar thread that's active, this GameStop thread that gets more than it's deserved attention. I'd recommend you go there if you want to discuss Gamestop more. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=18083&start=1800
Not to mention vlame basically isn't active anymore, so your feedback is wasted. (Also the essay is a year old)

While we have another GameStop thread, his feedback (which is thought out and not some random bump) is fine here, imo at least.
