This chart compares the different xbox memberships:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/JoinLIVE?xr=shellnav

The big benefit is being able to play online with your friends. The other advantage (not listed) is getting discounts on games during certain periods.

Re: Thoughts on Xbox 360
I touched on this in a PS3 thread, but the Xbox 360 is my least favorite current gen console by far. I bought one for the first time (a slim model) back in May and have barely touched it.
Most games seems to look and play better on another platform (in my opinion). If I want to play a Western RPG like Dragon Age, Risen, or Oblivion I'll use the PC where I get better control out of a keyboard/mouse. For console-based games like Eternal Sonata or Resonance of Fate, I prefer to play on the PS3.
As far as exclusives go, Wii and PS3 clearly win that battle. Wii has the first party Nintendo titles as well as Muramasa, Opooa, and FF Crystal Chronicles. PS3 has Demon's Souls, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles, and HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA.
Xbox 360 does have DeathSmiles, Fable II, Tales of Vesperia, and some other decent games, I will admit. There's a whole library of schmups I haven't even touched.
Basically, I treat the 360 just like I treated the original Xbox. It sat on shelf while I played most everything on PS2/GameCube/DC/PC, but I occasionally I dusted the beast off for Shenmue II and Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Conclusion: not a bad console, just one I haven't found much use for yet. Oh, one more thing, all the hardware failure and RROD talk has frightened me a bit too. I'm scared to turn the machine on at times and I handle it like a baby when I move it, haha.

Yeah. I'm at the point now where I find the XBLA and indie games a lot more interesting than the standard Xbox 360 disc releases. Plus, they're a lot easier on my wallet.

Re: Thoughts on Xbox 360
Also keep in mind PS3/Wii you can literally knock it over and it won't do a thing to the disc. Granted they are spinning at lower speeds, but even old dvd drives have this protection build in. No excuse other than they were cheap. Slims are even worse than original xbox 360s for randomly scratching discHobie-wan wrote:Don't forget that a 90s walkman was only spinning the disc at 500 to 200 RPM (center to outside) where as the 360 is likely spinning it at over 10000 RPM. That's a lot more centripital force to overcome if someone knocks over the system or tilts it while moving it around while a game is in there. Now maybe some penny pincher decided to save 5 cents on a part that would have lessened the problem, but one can probably scratch discs the same way with other disc drives being tilted while they're spinning at max speed.ChuChu Flamingo wrote:Additionally, Microsoft couldn't put a cd holder that a 1990 walkman has to prevent cd scratching.
Heck I've had Xbox 360s scratch a disc even when it is stationary. It is caused by vibrations.
My gears of war disc had to be resurfaced because of it. It troubles me as I take care of my stuff. The scratches on it were random and rather large.

Re: Thoughts on Xbox 360
I get why people don't like it. I personally do. I'm not a computer guy. I can work on them, and I use them a lot at school, and usually have to help teachers, (
) but I just don't like dealing with them at home. Plus, I prefer my TV to computer screens. (Yeah, I know I could connect my PC)
Compared to a PS3? It's a select taste. I like both, but I HATE Playstation controllers. I'm still waiting on a 3rd party one that fits me as well as a Gamecube or 360 controller. And cross game chat is king. It helps so much with my Call Of Duty loving friends.
I prefer the Xbox Live setup to PSN also. One final thing, about 85% of my friends have 360's, so I figure it is a little better to get for social reasons. Oh, and I wouldn't get to hang out with some of my awesome Aussie friends either.

Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360
WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Side note, I now prefer 360 for racers, although ps3 has Motorstorm.

Re: Thoughts on Xbox 360
I just got a 360 recently and I think it's a decent console. I've never really had any major gripes with it, I just personally think it offers very little (for my tastes (perhaps that shouldn't have been in parenthesis, I don't know, whatever...)). It does have some very good exclusives though, I mainly got it to scratch my burning itch to play Lost Odyssey. I've been exploring the library though and there are a lot of games I want to pick up for it. I've found that the games are very cheap when compared to PS3 games too. Not sure what the deal is with that.
I've found that I really hate the main navigation system compared to the PS3's XMB. Everything is really blocky/ugly and treats you like an idiot. There's very little customization, it just doesn't suit me.
I own a PS3 so there's no reason for me to pay for XBL. I don't care about voice chat or community features (I don't care about multiplayer features in general either), so there's no incentive for me to pay for it at all. I still think it's the least appealing current gen console out there, but it's worth owning, at least for awhile. I plan on getting rid of it once I've played all the exclusives I'm interested in, and there aren't very many.

Re: Thoughts on Xbox 360
Had it since launched and was enjoyable at the time until things started to break. I have found it to be most unreliable current gen console , because i went through 4 of them while i only went through 1 ps3 and the wii is still running fined.
XBL- its good but not worth the subscriptions fee. In comparison i hear more bs/annoying chat on xbl than psn. I played on both psn and xbl and to me the free psn works just fine.
Games: DLC games are in the masses on xbl so that is a huge plus, but normal release games i usually get it for ps mainly because its my main console thats hooked up.
Overall its not bad consoole just not my top current gen console to keep plugged in 24/7

Only problem is there's just so many of them coming out now.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Yeah. I'm at the point now where I find the XBLA and indie games a lot more interesting than the standard Xbox 360 disc releases. Plus, they're a lot easier on my wallet.
Anyways as someone who hasn't been able to afford Live for a year or so, I think it's pretty BS I can't download most demo's anymore because I'm not a Gold member. DEMO's folks. Then I can just turn on my PS3 and get them for free from that, only problem is the 360 often gets demo's a bit faster so that's kind of annoying.
