I keep everyone throughout the game. I cycle my guys in and out of the party for those with the lowest levels, and keep everyone around the same. Then at the end I bring the best 12.Breetai wrote:Gort. Him and Luke are pretty strong. I usually keep at least one, usually both, right through the entire game. Their only problem is that they are a bit slower than some other characters.Xeogred wrote:I'm gonna be slow with this one maybe, lol.
But yeah that axe guy you get from the bar early on in the game, he's amazing so far. Definitely one of the strongest fighters so far.

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
Is there a unit limit in this game? I love to keep everyone myself, heh.
Yeah Gort it is, he's been wiping the floor clean and been a good tank for taking damage, and he was one of my first guys besides the archer to start dealing out multiple hits. Honestly I haven't had a lot of luck with Luke, or he seems a lot more vulnerable. Much lower HP than Gort so far, but hopefully that'll change.
Overall I really dig the game so far, feels like a nice mix between Fire Emblem and your usual SRPG's like FFT, Arc the Lad, etc.

I don't think I'd have the patience for that. Then again, I'm not against redoing battles just for experience. Different kind of patience I suppose.Jmustang1968 wrote:I keep everyone throughout the game. No unit limit, except the 12 on the battlefield. Feel free to switch those 12 between each battle. Is there a unit limit in this game? I love to keep everyone myself, heh.

The stats you get after leveling up is random, so that might be why Gort is stronger than Luke for you. It should still even out after a while. It might even be that Gort is stronger mid-game while Luke gets stronger end-game. I kind of forget, since I have always just considered them to be pretty much alike.
Since you dig this game, definitely give Shining Force II a go. Most people consider it the better of the two Genesis games. I like both equally, but will admit that there is way more going on in Shining Force II. Shining Force CD on the Sega CD is also good. It's just story and battles. There is no exploring or towns between fights. The story-line continues off a few decades after the original Shining Force. Some of the characters make returns. It is definitely worth playing, in my opinion.

Ya I love all the SRPG shining forces. I think 2 is still my favorite, mostly for sentimental reasons if nothing else.Breetai wrote:I don't think I'd have the patience for that. And ya, I guess I dont like leaving characters behind... Some get really good if you work on them, and different playthroughs I have some characters worthwhile and some not as good, so it changes up a bit each time.

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
Yeah I definitely plan to check out the rest of the series when I can. And wow, it just hit me... this is one of those rare SRPG's where you have some character interaction and control being able to walk around in towns and such, haha. The early Arc the Lad's had that too, which I really like.
Next up is Phantasy Star someday, and I'll finally have the basics of Genesis JRPG's covered, heh.

I finished it at 3:58 am a few hours after I said I was going to bed
All in all loved it didnt end up being the 10 I thought when first starting but I think I can give it a solid 8.5!!
Plenty of time to the month to mess with the UGC version if I may get bored..OR until January 2012 to be back for another TR month..

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
You finish, and I just now get around to starting. I read the talk about the marionette, which reminded me that it was this one I played back in the day. So I'm trying it out on the GBA. In fact, I'm going to use my extra hour this morning to play a bit.
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
Go play sf2 on the ugc, as a few of us said is a superior title. Or you can play the more direct sequel with the sega cd game.TEKTORO wrote:I finished it at 3:58 am a few hours after I said I was going to bed

Sf2 and final fantasy 4 and 6 are what really first opened me up to and had me hooked on rpgs when I was growing up. I actually rented and played sf2 as a kid in 6th grade first. Then went and found a copy of 1 to play after I finished 2.
