I agree entirely. The GBA sequel is a nice game if you have nothing to compare it against. I was just hoping for something more or an upgrade to the original. Not complaining there are many other sequels I wish wouldn't have ever been made (Nights)
I for one would want the remake on Xbox Live. Maybe do higher resolution sprites if not hi-def and fix the frame rate issues. Add some cool achievements, update the multiplayer and you'd have a fantastic game.

Heya Guys! First post on the board- lovin' your style and community, RB!
Anyway- back on topic, I actually bought a saturn and COMPLETELY unknown to me, I bought a cheap copy of Guardian heroes, which I then found out was 'a big deal'... Thing is, and I don't want to sound like a troll, I don't 'get' it... I guess I was expecting a Treasure-esque (big fan- got a sealed copy of Ikaruga for the DC at launch) Golden-Axe/Final Fight kinda thing- but it isn't- I feel it's missing fluidity and any real fun- but I'm keen to know what you like so much about it, just to see if there's anything I've missed!

The keys to really loving Guardian Heroes are:
Learning the fighting moves
Learning the magic moves (so you don't have to muck with that idiotic magic bubble)
Learning how your stats affect how fast you move and how hard you hit.
That last bit is important. If you play Han and beef your strength up all the way you'll hit hard but you'll fling enemies so far you won't get big combos, meaning you won't earn magic back quickly and you may actually do less damage in the long haul. Likewise, ff you speed up Genjirou too much you can lost combo hits and end up with a character who's too twitchy to control. Ginjiro also needs to limit himself on strength growth and learn to use his spells well, since he actually has a few really nice ones. Randi, meanwhile, is all about comboing himself enough spell points to magic someone's ass. He's trouble, though, because he's so weak and has such short range. For Randi learning the magic moves are critical, because waiting for his better spells to pop up will get you smacked down before you can cast them. And the trick to poor Nicole is beefing up your luck and never playing without a friend, not until you're both very good and very sadistic.
The mutliple endings, wide variety of enemies, and incredible variations of moves and magic really make this title stand out. Combat is fast and furious, not to mention confusing, and yes, there are some cheap hits. It isn't for everyone, but it can be lots of fun if you have the right mindset.

Whoa! Go figure, I didn't realise it had all that
I think the biggest gripes are:
- movement between planes is a pain (don't really see why thy did that- the combos, perhaps?)
- Being the only guy old enough to appreciate that a console is more than 'm4d gr4ph1xxxx' and want to play it on the Saturn- I do think this'd show it's legs a bit more with more players...
Still, might have a read up on it...

In many brawlers you can think you're lined up with the enemy but not hit them or think you are out of reach only to find you are getting hit. By having 3 distinct planes you still have in and out movement but you never have to worry about not quite lining up. And yeah, it helps a lot with retaining the fighting-game style moves and spells.

My enjoyment of Guardian Heroes was always dampened by my inability to properly use anyone besides Nicole and the annoying, unskippable story sequences.
This is where I disagree with marurun. With the right build, Nicole is extremely overpowered. I ripped through single player by just powering up her energy barrier. It rips through life bars with extreme prejudice, even if the enemy is blocking. God forbid your enemy be in the air, her energy barrier can keep juggling you until you're dead. It easily deals with crowds and just destroys bosses. The key is getting your enemies backed up against one side of the screen, then they're pretty much dead. It's all about zoning with her
marurun seems to know the other characters better than me though. You should write a faq. Gamefaqs has little to offer on this game

Can you save on this game... or are there passwords... or do you just have to beat it in one setting (ANNOYING!!)?
I played the game at a friends and enjoyed it, but I don't always have time to sit down and dedicate hours in one setting. Same question about Shinobi Legions and Astal.
Not having a save or password option does not add relevant difficulty... just obnoxiousness. Biggest problem with shmups too. Fuckin retarded that I would EVER have to leave one of my precious vintage systems on pause while I do things that I need to in the outside!

You can save in Guardian Heroes. Astal has to be beaten in one sitting, though there is a code for a level select you can find on the net somewhere. I don't know anything about Shinobi Legions.nateup2 wrote:Can you save on this game... or are there passwords... or do you just have to beat it in one setting (ANNOYING!!)?
