**CALL FOR DONATIONS-2011 CHARITY AUCTION**

Post by dsheinem »

We are now officially gearing up for this year’s charity auction, and next month forum members will have a chance to help out those in need. This year we will be partnering with Game Gavel to host the actual auction, but everything else about the auction will be the same - including how you donate items. Our charity this year is the Alzheimer's Association:

The Alzheimer’s Association works on a global, national and local level to enhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias...As the largest, private non-profit funder of Alzheimer's research, the Association is committed to accelerating progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure. Through our partnerships and funded projects, we have been part of every major research advancement over the past 30 years...Today, the Association reaches millions of people affected by Alzheimer’s across the globe through our national office and more than 75 local chapters. As the largest donor-supported, voluntary health organization for Alzheimer’s, the Association is a catalyst for advancements in Alzheimer's research and care.

The Alzheimer's Association does amazing work and we would strongly encourage you to donate to them whether or not you participate in the auction. You can do so here: http://alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp

The plan is to run the auction from December 3rd-18th, with a set ending time of 11:59PM EST on the 18th. As always, bidding will start at $1 per item and there will be no reserve prices. More details of the auction format and listings will be announced once it gets started. Payment for items to be shipped in time for Christmas (in the U.S.) will be due on December 19th, payment for all other items will be due by January 2nd.

Here's what we need from YOU:

1. PM me a list of items you are willing to donate to the auction. If you can also attach a link to pictures of the item(s), it would be ideal (though not required). Be sure to provide all relevant description information (e.g. If game is complete, region information, the system smells like socks, etc.)

2. Items that you can donate are not limited to games. You can also donate systems, accessories, movies, etc. You can also choose to donate bundled packages (e.g. a bundle of 3 games and a system, 10 movies, etc.). Live animals, weapons, personal favors, and other unmailable items are not auctionable. Feel free to be creative – we had some interesting items donated the last two years and would love to see more this year! Please don't just use the auction to unload your junk - I do reserve the right to refuse items.

3. In your PM, let me know if you will cover shipping costs on your own. If you aren't able to do so, please provide me with your PayPal address so that we can send you the shipping costs when they are collected. We would strongly urge you to consider covering shipping as part of your donation if you are at all able to do so. Remember, you will be shipping the items directly to the winning bidders.

A sample PM might look like this:

I am donating:
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt NES cartridge (picture here: http://www.photobucket.com/yourpic)
Radiant Silvergun sealed for the SAT (NTSC-J) (picture here: http://www.photobucket.com/yourpic)
My custom-made life sized Superman 64 action figure (picture here: http://www.photobucket.com/yourpic)

Shipping:
I will cover domestic and international shipping for the first two items, but I will need to split the cost with the buyer to cover the cost of shipping the action figure (approx. $50 each in the U.S.).

My PayPal address is:
[email protected]

Remember, we only need a PayPal address if you will need some reimbursement for shipping costs.

So, take a look around and see what items you might be able to donate. Please submit your list of donations for the auction to me by Sunday, November 27th.

Right on! I've had a box sitting in my gameroom for about 2 months waiting for this to start up. I'll just have to get some pictures ready now.

I don't think so. I'll ask and if they do, I'll let you know.

I mean, I can understand why if they don't want them, but I don't think it's a big deal. Hopefully they'll allow them, because that's 100% of my donations this year.
