According to the article, Chrono Trigger is already up. This is all good news, since FFVI is rather expensive unless you get the PS1 version with the annoying load times.

Wait. Isn't the version being posted the PS1 version with the annoying load times?
Haha, I read the article and they actually provide a synopsis of each game. As if one sentence about controlling "Bartz" is going to rope in new players.
"Oh hay, Final Fantasy V, an eight-year-old PlayStation port of a game from 1993. I wish someone would explain the plot so I can decide if I want to buy it."

I don't know; the article didn't specify. But even if it is, wouldn't the load times be reduced since it's playing off a hard-drive?Zing wrote:Wait. Isn't the version being posted the PS1 version with the annoying load times?

Some, but the game is fundamentally flawed in the PS1 incarnation.BoringSupreez wrote:I don't know; the article didn't specify. It's possible it's been fixed. There's only one way to find out. Who wants to be the guinea pig?

You really think any publisher would give a crap to edit/fix DL ports?Betamax001 wrote:It's possible it's been fixed. There's only one way to find out. Who wants to be the guinea pig?
And yeah, the PSX version of FFV is awful. GBA version is incredible and if you really want to be authentic, you're better off playing a fan translation of an SNES rom.
Re: Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy V and VI coming to PSN
PlayStation games can be extremely particular about their loading time. Shaving even a single second off of a load time can be enough to cause the game to crash. This is why "fast loading" was always optional on the PS2.BoringSupreez wrote:I don't know; the article didn't specify. I suppose it depends on how the conversion from the PS1 disc to downloadable image is handled. The PS1 software on the PS3 might actually have an idle loop of sorts to maintain the original load time.
This is all speculation. I'm not really sure how Sony could work around the load time "requirement" for PS1 games. Maybe some games which pass certain "fast load" tests are flagged as such and have improved load times.

According to this thread Chrono Trigger's load times are the same between the PSN and FF Chronicles versions so we're looking at the same thing for FFV and VI. That's a shame, I was looking forward to playing VI on the PSP.
