I'd play Shogo if it were remade today.
I'm currently re-playing Singularity, an awfully-overlooked game.
What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

I just got the Painkiller collection off Steam and started up the first game a few days ago, definitely seems like something I'm gonna love. It feels like Doom with an Unreal neo-gothic look (is it the Unreal 2004 engine? certainly feels like it and runs like a champ on my hit or miss PC).Ack wrote:I may be picking it up then in the near future. In the meantime, I managed to find my stepbrother's PC collection, including copies of Iron Storm, Painkiller Resurrection, and Brothers in Arms, so I should be ok.
Heck yes dude, I absolutely loved this game. Definitely an underrated gem. Some really neat puzzles off and on with the abilities as well. Overall it just really reminded me of Half-Life 2 and the FEAR games in design, and I remember the campaign wasn't too short either so that was awesome. Great stuff.Pulsar_t wrote:I'm currently re-playing Singularity, an awfully-overlooked game.
I myself just finished up Portal 2. Good times.

Oh man, Iron Storm is grueling. I've made it to level 5 (there are apparently only 6), but I'm having to give it my all just to gain an inch. I suppose that means it lives up to its WWI roots, but man, I'm getting beaten down quite hard. I'm having trouble remembering the last time an FPS challenged me this much. Sure, the Return to Na Pali expansion for Unreal and Battle Out of Hell expansion for Painkiller were tough, but those were expansions for games that originally weren't that hard (to be fair, Unreal did get harder later on, but Painkiller only felt tough on the highest difficulty setting, and even then I breezed through about half of it before I started to slow down).
I suppose the issue with Iron Storm is that each level comes loaded with snipers, or nigh-invincible sentry guns, or throws multiple spawning enemies behind you with rocket and grenade launchers. That, and every enemy is a bullet sponge, saving headshots. In fact, I think they can take more hits than I can, and the headshot rule applies to me too. I've been popped suddenly in the face from a sniper I couldn't see more times than I could count.

Finished Resistance 3 last night: it was teh awesome.
I might get to Battlefield 3 before MW3, but with Uncharted 3 in the PS3 right now it ain't looking good.

Ok, it is 3rd person, but had started and mostly finished Transformers War for Cybertron a few weekends ago, but the final fight was pissing me off. Just polished that off. Not a great game, but was fun as I got it new for only $6 or so.

I tend to forget Iron Storm is an FPS. I think I always skim over it on GoG...Ack wrote:Oh man, Iron Storm is grueling. Yeah Unreal was never too tough, but those humans at the end of Pali?...

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I used to own Iron Storm, many years ago. I took it home and tried to play it, but couldn't get past the main menu. I contacted tech support, ran through the solutions, and in the end they concluded that Iron Storm doesn't work for some reason on certain computers (ala Windows ME), and that mine was one of those. It's one of those games it seems I'm destined to never play.Ack wrote:Oh man, Iron Storm is grueling. Well, you don't still have Windows ME do you? You can pick up Iron Storm via GOG, and I'm running it with relatively few problems on Windows 7(I've noticed a couple of glitches, and it has crashed a couple of times). Though I gotta say, it is an FPS that could be easily overlooked, as it's interesting and tough but not on par with something like Half-Life or Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
