Dreamcast online thread
Re: Free dial-up ISP's for Dreamcast?
I think that there must be a (small) market for an ethernet to dial-up bridge that functions like a dial-up isp "in a box". Primarily for getting older hardware like this online. However, I haven't been able to find anything like this online. It seems like setting up an old PC to do it or using a real dial up ISP is the only viable option right now.

Re: Free dial-up ISP's for Dreamcast?
Ok just dug a PCI modem out of my box of shit in the attic. Installed it. So I guess I'm gonna start going through the tutorial. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
the tutorial I plan to use is here if yr interested: http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/php ... 42095e267d
UPDATE: successfully got a Linux Virtual Machine running on my PC and it has recognized my old modem.
UPDATE: having trouble getting the Linux distro to install... hmm...

Re: Free dial-up ISP's for Dreamcast?
hit a snag, and don't know enough about Linux to figure it out right now. Maybe a Linux geek can help me. I get this error msg when trying to install Crunchbang under VMware Player:
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot. Please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.
It SOUNDS to me like I can't use Crunchbang? If so, then anyone know which Linux distro I need to use instead?
I'm on Win7 64-bit.

Try downloading the 32-bit version of Crunchbang, as opposed to the 32-bit one.noiseredux wrote:hit a snag, and don't know enough about Linux to figure it out right now. Maybe a Linux geek can help me. I get this error msg when trying to install Crunchbang under VMware Player:

my Win7 is 64. Shouldn't that matter?lisalover1 wrote:Try downloading the 32-bit version of Crunchbang, as opposed to the 32-bit one.noiseredux wrote:hit a snag, and don't know enough about Linux to figure it out right now. EDIT: probably I don't know what I'm talking about. I'll try 32-bit Crunchbag and let you know.

EDIT: definitely installed. Thanks. But too tired tonight to finish setting everything up. Will continue tomorrow.

I actually use #! (Crunchbang) myself, its pretty freakin sweet. But if you get it to work under #! definitely share with me how to get it to operate.

since yr familiar with Crunchbang, later on I'll post the snag I've hit. I *think* it's probably something that I'm not getting since I'm a Linux n00b.BananaXX wrote:I actually use #!
