If you listen to enough Loveline you'll see a very definite cause and effect between abuse and the kind of person someone grows up with.

Still on. It wasn't very good when Stryker was on, since he doesn't have a good play with Dr. Drew. When it was Dr. Drew solo it wasn't bad, though obviously not as entertaining as it gets when Adam gets on one of his jags. I haven't listened since Psycho Mike started cohosting.

I never knew there was anyone after Adam Carolla. I actually liked him. Man that show really enlightened me when I was 11.

I've spanked my four year old son in the past a few times, but never hard enough to even hurt him. More like a pat on the butt. He actually walked away laughing once, so I moved on to timeouts and they work great on him. I couldn't imagine physically hurting him, ever.

I really enjoyed Loveline back in the day.

I stopped listening shortly after Adam Carolla left though. It just wasn't the same without him.

It's also important to encourage them to talk back to you. Hitting them will make them hide things from you and hate your guts.

Communication > Violence
See, I want to point something out. Unless I did something really out of line, my parents explained why it was wrong first. They then beat me IF I did it again. I will point out though, that time outs don't work. I'm not saying that's what you are asking to do, I'm just pointing out the fact. Anyone who argues otherwise is wrong. I have yet to see a properly disciplined child that was commonly put in time out.

I have yet to watch the video, as I do not have a youtube account, but from what has been said it sounds like he stepped over the line, which he shouldn't have.

I have to ask though, how many here were spanked? I include using a stronger force than the hand, such as a belt, shoe, or other instruments? I know for a fact that corporal punishment works better on me. If I killed someone, I would want the death sentence. Let me put it this way, I don't believe spanking in any form is abuse unless it leaves marks, or causes internal damage. Otherwise, I don't see the problem.

I was never spanked. Instead I was mostly slapped, hard. I never deserved any of it either. I never did anything anywhere near bad enough to deserve it.

Some of the things I was slapped/hit over were:

- When I was like 5 years old or younger, I played with a bucket of flour and spilled it onto the floor. I was hit so hard that I was bleeding on my mouth and crying like a mother fucker.

Everything else I'm going to say happened somewhere between the ages of 8 and 13. I know I'm leaving a lot out. I honestly can't remember that much of it.

- Anytime I would get a C or lower on a test or report card. If that happened, I did everything I could to hide it because I was deathly afraid of the consequences. By the way, I tried my best in school and didn't slack off much at all.

- Math in particular was the worst. If I had trouble figuring out a math problem, I was slapped for it. Not even talking about tests here. This happened when I was trying to learn it. I was expected to know math even before learning it!

- Basically anytime I did something that was considered bad, usually minor things like most kids would do. I was an extremely well behaved son but if I messed up even a little, I was hit and/or got a severe punishment, usually involving a ban or restriction of video games.

- Accidents. If I would knock over a glass of water or drop food on my lap, I would be treated like I just murdered someone.

- Crying. If I cried (like from being hit), then I was hit again for crying about it. Really.

Thankfully, I was never seriously injured from this stuff, but to me this stuff was fucking hell on earth. Actually being hit was bad, but it was the constant fear of it that really upset me. It wasn't until I was a teenager that it stopped, and then later everything was properly discussed and handled.

That said, this sort of thing can never be completely healed.

Dear Lord had I forgotten about that show. I only listened to about three shows, but one was unforgettable. There was a female caller who could only get...I'll just say "turned on", when her partner vomited on her. After divulging this information I believe she asked "Is that normal?".

Yucky.
