I would use that money on a MVS converter for your AES if you don't already have one.

I don't have one. And maybe I'm wrong, but purchasing a MVS converter + games seems very expensive.

Well, the MVS Converter is $250 and the MVS games are less expensive than the AES ones.

That is what I was thinking, Metal Slug for AES $1000 or Metal Slug for MVS and the MVS converter for about $300. Then after the initial purchase for future games will be way cheaper. Blazing Star is about $80 to $100 on the MVS, same for the CD version but you won't have any load times. Then if you ever got a cab you would be set also.

I sold my MVS>AES converter for $180 on neo geo, and it took about 10 days, so you should be able to find one by posting a wtb ad (there or could even try here).

The whole point of neo is have the arcade experience in your home, if you go from playing something superb as AES to NGCD, you will be disappointed. Not with slowdown so much, but load times are annoying as all get out.

Very few MVS carts top $150, and you can easily get the some of the very best for $50-60 per or less. Windjammers, Shock Troopers, Top Hunter and Spin Master come to mind.

What games are you going to be playing the most? I would assume any one who is interested in a Neo Geo to begin with is into SNK fighters. While I've never owned a CD, I've read/seen enough to safely say that I can't really recommend it.The load times (especially for the later released fighters) are downright terrible. The CDZ, which I do own, more or less cuts the loading time in half, which is pretty rad but it's still on the slow side.

The other downfall is that in order to reduce the load times, they removed frames of animations/sprites in games such as The Last Blade and KOF 99 (possibly 98?) Which is a bummer. The general consensus is, if you play a lot of fighters you might want to skip out on the CD.

If your main interest lies in the earlier Neo Geo games such as Windjammers (one of the best games ever), Baseball Stars 2/ any of the sport games, NAM 1975, Magician Lord etc. then a CDZ is great as these games load quite fast. I mean, I've never flipped out at my CDZ due to load times, but it has bothered me.

Obviously the upside is that the games are significantly cheaper and easier to come by. Needless to say, that's a pretty awesome upside. I'd love to get an AES but if I had the choice to buy The Last Blade for $30-50 versus $300, guess which one I'll choose?

Though I tend to agree with mjmjr25, going from an AES to a CD/CDZ is a downgrade. And MVS converter would seem like the best route considering you already have an AES.

Thanks people. I'll probably end up getting both the Neo Geo CD and MVS converter in due time. 8)

Don't even bother with a Neo Geo Cd or a CDZ. Just get the convertor, or sell your AES for a consolidized MVS.

Didn't we JUST have a thread on this, like two weeks ago???

edit: Yup, sort of. This very question was directly addressed in it: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... =6&t=33959. The title of the thread didn't address it. So, OP, you are forgiven.
