It really was fun and an excellent idea. We should do this again next year Noise cuz you gotta have a sequel baby!!.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

So I just watched the Nightmare on Elm Street remake alone this time (originally watched with friends and I thoroughly believe my original opinion was skewed because of that/because I was remembering parts of the remake incorrectly).

It was er, um, bad. I remembered liking it, but I just watched it and well, the acting was dull as hell and the effects looked way better in the original film. Plus, it annoyed me that so many things were just straight up pulled from the original, but done crappier, like Freddy's shape in the wall over the bed. The only thing I liked was looking at some of the environments. It's kind of odd that I was remembering this one being much better than it was, especially since it hasn't been that long since I first saw it, but I really have to eat my words. It was terrible.

So after all is said and done:

Noise: Do you have a favorite or top 5 list of movies from your month of horror?

oh man. That's really really hard Luke. Again, I mostly watched movies that I've seen a million times and love completely, so it's tough to narrow down. The majority of the movies I watched this month were ones I deemed either 4 or 5 out of 5's y'know?

I hear ya.

Nothing to set in stone, I was just wondering if a few of the movie "experiences" stood out. As an example, I don't think Madea's Big Happy Family is the best movie of the year (by far) but I probably had the best time watching it this year.

Maybe I should ask, "What was the biggest crowd pleaser?". Had friends over for Halloween, and to my shock not everyone was digging Monster Squad (by everyone I mean the women...no offense women, but Monster Squad rules).

well experience is something different. Earlier this year I saw Scream 4 in the theater, and it was so exciting. It felt just like when I saw Scream 2 in the theater in high school. I actually generally hate going to the theater by the way. I find it a rip-off. It's so expensive and half the time it's crowded with teens that fuck up the atmosphere. BUT I've had a handful of amazing experiences in recent years. One was seeing My Bloody Valentine 3D -- mostly because the 3D was effective instead of just tacked on. But the big one was when Rob Zombie's first Halloween came out. We went opening night and I've never seen a theater so packed. I was like "oh great, a bunch of stupid kids that are going to talk and text and ruin this for me" and yet the whole audience was enthralled. Everyone was quiet -- but then screaming -- and a lady even yelled out "oh no she didn't!" when a character did something stupid to get themselves killed. It felt to me like what you always see of people going to horror movies in the 80's. It was great.

/side-story.

biggest crowd-pleaser? Hmm. Well Troll 2 (which I didn't watch this month) always blows peoples' minds when we expose them to it.

For this month -- I'd say that House of the Devil and Trick R Treat are two of the most recent films that I feel like will (and deserve to) obtain a cult-status for years to come. The first because of its mastering of atmosphere. The second, because it's just super fun and awesome. I suppose it's no coincedence that they both have strong 80's homage qualities about them (in different ways).

OH and I also think from this month, that Night of the Demons is one of the most ridiculously overlooked 80's kids-in-haunted-house movies ever. It rules.

Yeah, that's what I love about going to the theater. When a crowd is respectful but still lets out a few comments, it just adds to the experience. Not sure if theaters still have these promos, but our carmike used to have movie trivia before the trailers/teasers. It was always fun shouting out answers and playing off others wrong answers.

Troll 2? Oh my Gooooooooooooooood!

Anyway, I watched an indy mockumentary about slasher flicks the other day and thought of you, noise. Have you seen Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon? Considering its low budget, it's quite well done, and there are some excellent cameos and references to horror films ranging from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Poltergeist.

own it and have watched it 3 times since its release. I think it's really well done. I actually hope there's a sequel.
