I usually get advice from HQ before battles,Im mid chapter 4 and havent had any special strategy thus far.Buy a bunch of healing herbs about 3 for each character just to be on the safe side, and dont let any of your men get surrounded (try to surround the them).noiseredux wrote:um how are you supposed to kill the fucking Marionette?

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

how do you save on the smash pack version? i've lost a couple hours already. i think i read you have to save in game then abxy+start to go to the main menu and save there also? i really don't want to try again tonight.

I dunno guys. I might end up sitting this one out. RPG's are hard for me as is but this one just seems so slow paced.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You don't know how long I've been waiting for a post about that.noiseredux wrote:um how are you supposed to kill the fucking Marionette?
Have fun.
I've played through the game repeatedly and that has to be the hardest battle in it. I never got much of a strategy other than kill all the little guys first and attack the marionette from front and back.
You save with the priests in towns mostly. At least on the pc smash pack that's all you have to do.stickem wrote: how do you save on the smash pack version? i've lost a couple hours already. i think i read you have to save in game then abxy+start to go to the main menu and save there also? i really don't want to try again tonight.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

yeah, it says it saves when i try that, fire console back up and no continue option or a save on my vmu. there's a trick to the sega smash pack version. just too late for me to mess with tonight.

Yeah...I tried the iOS port which I just happened to have, and the screen was too small for me to see the range of movement and stuff.
That kind of sucks, as I would've been able to do this during breaks at school. Whatever, I'll just go with the good ol' Genesis.

I figured this out too late in the battle. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I tried hit and runs but then I figured out he regenerates health.DinnerX wrote:You don't know how long I've been waiting for a post about that.noiseredux wrote:um how are you supposed to kill the fucking Marionette?![]()

Once my last mage dropped, I knew I was going to loose, I got him down to like 7 health then he dealt the final blow.

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
After reading all of the trouble you guys are having with that one battle, I am glad that I grind/egress at least once on almost every battle early in the game.
I'm not quite sure your levels but my main core of characters was at level 15 at the end of chapter 4. So anyone else who is having trouble grinding helps and is fun.
By grinding I learned more about enemies, patterns, and most importantly leveled up my healers (they get 10xp for every time they heal at least one hp - so heal people often to raise their levels)
So if you like the gameplay and are not just playing the game to beat it, try grinding plus it makes for great short bursts of playtime between life's normal chores.

I didn't have trouble with the Marionette... But I think the GBA version may be easier.
Clear out all the minions, and pay attention to the order the Marionette takes on a turn. Then position your guys so that only the toughest (probably Max) takes a single hit from the Marionette AND the healer can reach him if needed, and everyone else next turn can take a swing at the Marionette (dogpile) before Marionette gets another turn to live and hit Max or someone else again.
Ivo.

yes, you need to save at a save point (priest for example) and THEN you need to hold down A, B, X, Y and START to save in the Smash Pack menu. I did the same thing first time I played -- lost an hour of progress because I hadn't read the manual.
