I want an older model one genesis since i found out the one is have is the dreaded VA7 board, which is nearly a model 2.
I know normal things like the FCCID code, the EXT port, TMSS screen and HDG label.
But what do I look for when I open it?
How to find out what revision a Genesis model 1 is?

Here's an earlier model 1 board: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v395/ ... on/sys.jpg
Things that are easy to identify would be the giant DIP CPU above the cart slot and the heatsink to the left of the cart slot (two power regulators).
I can't find a higher resolution right now, but I think this is the VA7: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9 ... KhKoDEf1oQ

It pissed me off when I found out my broken model 1 had the superior sound chip and that the working one was a revision. Thanks for all the info, Ziggy.

I don't believe in the word "broken." Your Genesis is only temporarily out of order until fixed.
