Uh-oh, hopefully not another slippery slope
Uh-oh, hopefully not another slippery slope
I haven't made any retro gaming purchases in a while but I broke that streak today. I've been meaning to buy a Retro Duo so I can play the one NES game I have but I've read a number of reports that as good as it is it just doesn't do the sound and graphics right on some games. I decided that if I'm going retro, I might as well go right to the source so I bought an NES, the first I've ever owned. I got it at a local retro game store for $45 plus sales tax. It is not yellowed, came with one control pad, A/V cable and a power pack. They install a new 72-pin connector in all the NES consoles they sell. It looks pretty good cosmetically.
A few months back I made a killer trade for a boxed N64 and some games so I could play LoZ games and Super Mario 64 which of course are games of legend but which I've never played since I have been a Sega fanboy since the days of the Genesis and never went the way of the Big N until now.
I just hope owning an NES doesn't lead to yet another slippery slope of retro game collecting! I guess I refrained from getting a ton of N64 games so I might be safe. Still seems weird to have spent close to $50 to play one game! Uh-oh, that sounds like justification to buy some NES games.....

At least most NES games are cheap...
Actually, I've been thinking of picking one up too.
I've never actually owned one myself ** gasp**
It's between that and an SNES. I had an SNES, but sold it before moving across the country.
It's funny, I have multiple carts and accessories for both already, but no console

Unless your looking for collectors items I think the NES is the most afffordable system to get games for. I'd say most titles you can pick up for around 5 or 10 bucks. If there is something you're looking for let me know i may be able to set you up with some good titles for not too much cash. I have a store here who guarantees they work and has a 7 day return, so I can make sure they work. Ebay is ok, but i've won a couple 1 or 2 dollard auctions and got a dead cart. lame. Thrift stores are your friend, especailly salvation army.
