Mod chip or region switch?

I know everyone loves the boot disk and cdrs...but personally i got a 2nd dreamcast for a reason i say! Does ANYONE know where to pick up a mod chip...or has anyone ever tried a region SWITCH on the dreamcast...not the region boot cd ive been reading about, but an actual switch.

souds like you got the older style dreamcast games,

newer style all self boot no matter what region.

i personally never heard of a dreamcast mod chip, dont know why it would exist anyways.

I actually found someone selling the mod chip...had to hunt several forums.

What do you mean older style of games though? I thought ALL japan imports you had to have a bootdisk for? Which i have one...but i want a TRUE region free system. To my knowledge if its japan it requires a boot disk, how would you even be able to tell a "newer date" game. Ask ebay sellers whats the date printed?

he's talking about newer image files, i.e. burned backups. they selfboot regardless of region.

ligit imports require a region mod or boot disc. ive read instructions on how to permanently change the region of a dreamcast but i'm assuming you don't want to permanently japify your DC.

hehe i thought that is what he ment...but point of wanting to chip it is to NOT need the cdrs...to me cdrs are play before you buy i suspose.

I read on one mod where you can rewire the inside and then use a "custom" boot disk that lets you select the region you want to play in. So...you want JP...you set it up and you play, 5 games in 5 hours...all self boot, but then you want to play an american game. Put your boot disk back in switch it BACK to american, and agian self booting legit games.

I thought about doing that mod, but im trying to lose the boot disks all together for region play. SO!...i will be chipping one of the dreamcast for fun and then keep the other for the cdrs i suspose...or save it until the chipped one goes.

Be my luck ill end up screwing up my dreamcast trying to do this and need the 2nd one lol

Anyone have tips on soldering on the dreamcast?
