yeah the XBand (thanks Popo, I was blanking). If I understand correctly it worked by tricking the game into thinking that Player 2 was the guy sitting next to you instead of the person whose modem you've dialed.

Re: Widespread gaming history myths
The fact that a myth is an opinion when it's personal opposed to subjective, whether or not it sucks, is a matter of taste, depending on how you look at it. Otherwise it's just bad, unless bad is good. Then it's a statement. Because, let's face it, an opinion is a subjective statement that can be the result of an emotion or an individual interpretation of a fact. Unless green is blue, and chicken tastes like chicken. Think about that...
Jééz, this thread sucks...

Myth of the year.

But I too think that the Dreamcast was the first console to allow online multiplayer gaming. And if it wasn't the Dreamcast that was first, I don't think the first console would have been something made before 1995. It must have first become big on PCs before a console manufacturer thought of doing it.

Re: Widespread gaming history myths
In addition to the X-band, the Saturn's Netlink allowed for online peer to peer multiplayer gaming.
Also, Ken Kuturagi was the father of the Playstation.
In reality Sony worked with Nintendo on the CD-ROM attachment for the SNES, and Sony of America's Olaf Olaffson worked (however briefly) with Sega of America on a next generation CD-ROM based system. Fact, Revolutionaries at Sony claims that the Playstation existed in the late 80s and that it was being promoted by Kuturagi at that time.
Whatever that Playstation was it had little to do with the system finalized in late 1993.

Ah, sorry honey. Promise I'll make it up to you. I'll take you out for dinner, a movie ANYTHING you want.
Though Meganet still sounds just like Satelliview, and XBAND is awesome, but unofficial. So I guess the Saturn was the first console with official online multiplayer? And the Dreamcast the first one with built in internet gaming capabilities?

Re: Widespread gaming history myths
Every video game is considered terrible by someone in the world, just as every video game is considered excellent by someone else. Every video game is someone's favorite and someone else's most hated. But this is about myths in gaming history, not whether Justice League Task Force was a good game.
Warcraft was Blizzard's first game.
No, this simply isn't true.
Warhammer 40,000 ripped off Starcraft.
I have actually heard this, and it made me groan then just as it makes me groan now.
3D gaming made its debut in the 1990s.
I, Robot, 1983.

Really? ANYTHING? Okay, I want to have a Spy vs. Spy marathon with you. The loser has to watch the other play Outrun Online HD or Outrun 2 or Outrun 2006SP until every single course is completed.
Yeah, I guess the Saturn was the first with officially licensed online multiplayer, and the DC the first out of the box with it built in. At least, as far as I know.
