I go with the strategy of "not dropping it".
This...

Only time you need protection is when you're not playing.

I've got something similar to this for my DSi XL :

Airform Protective Hard Case

Works like a charm... 8)

Happy birthday man. I had mine on the 26th :) .

I've been debating on a 3DS, but I can't pull the trigger, as much as I want too.

Must wait for revision.

It's due out next year. I hear it's being made compatible with the 2nd thumbstick.

But doesn't the HD collection kinda make the 3ds version useless?
You'll be able to transfer MGS 2 & 3 to a Vita through the HD collection.

Why make a 3DS version? More money I guess?

Unless the surprise is that the 3DS version is a remake of Metal Gear, not Metal Gear Solid.

Only time you need protection is when you're not playing.
So that excludes the 3DS (TDS) from being an STD then.

As long as you stay away from DLC you should be safe...
