Fear that all your rare games will be worth nothing!!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Fear that all your rare games will be worth nothing!!

Post by loganm187 »

I have been collecting and selling rare games for years and it has become somewhat of a steady income and a hobby I love. My entire room is full of every game i always wanted growing up BUT, I HAVE FOUND THEM ALL AT THRIFT STORES AND PAWNS SHOPS THROUGH OUT THE YEARS.My game collection also serves as a savings account of sorts if I ever needs some cash i will just sell a copy of earthbound etc.(I always keep one copy of every game i have though)Thing is though.....This whole Virtual console thing scares me so much because I have so many rare games on every system that i think if i don't sell ASAP they will be worth nothing in just a short time because. people can just download them. Then again the ROM's to most of these games have been available for years for nothing......

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!?!

Should i sell now and put the money in the bank? Just hope these original carts and such keep there value over the years and just go up in price? Keep them all because i love them???( I'm a starving college student so that's not really an option)

HELP! I NEED SERIOUS ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!

Do people really believe that (legal) digital distribution will make original carts worthless? If that were really true then why did emulation not do that years ago?

I myself have pretty much every game available for most older consoles stored on hdd's all over the place from my PC to my XBOX. Yet if I see a game I want on ebay or whatever, I wont hesitate to buy it, just because I want a tangible ownership of that game and the ability to play it on the original hardware.

I'm not saying don't sell. I'm just saying don't be so hasty to ditch your entire collection because your jittery about something that may not be a threat.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I gots some yens... What're ya selling?

Seriously though, worrying about the VC is like worrying that ISOs of a rare game will devalue it. I still see Radiant Silvergun going for over $200 and just because I can download and burn it doesn't mean my complete/mint RS has gone down in value (in relative terms).
A copy is nothing compared to an original in terms of collectables.

collecting games for value right now is like collecting baseball cards in the late 80's. buy them because you enjoy collecting shiny things, its NOT an investment.
