What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I recently got a PS3 and want to give Killzone 2/3 a go so I have finally started playing Killzone on the PS2. Just finished the first level, bit meh.

The original Killzone is easily one of the funniest and glitchiest games I've ever played. Getting stuck in geometry, drop ships clipping through the ground textures, things like that. It was a trainwreck, they were trying to do way too much than the hardware could pull off.

My favorite summation of Killzone that I've heard is that they were trying to pull of an Xbox game on a PS2. And it couldn't work, of course.Xeogred wrote:The original Killzone is easily one of the funniest and glitchiest games I've ever played. Something about Killzone made me replay it twice, and I'm thinking of replaying it even one more time. Too bad PCSX2 runs it er.. badly

So anybody have any experience with Shogo: Mobile Armor Division? I'm feeling the itch to play some FPS again, and I'm debating paying the six bucks GOG wants for it, but I'd like to hear what other folks have to say first.

I've played all of 5 minutes and I wasn't impressed, but it wasn't a fair shake. It was a DL'd copy years ago. It definitely plays like an FPS, not a mech game.

Very fun game. We had some epic LAN matches with this one. The campaign is pretty entertaining. There is at least one major branching path that affects how the story plays out.Ack wrote:So anybody have any experience with Shogo: Mobile Armor Division? The 'on foot' stages are pretty well designed for the campaign, while the mech stages are a bit lacking.
However, it's the other way around in multiplayer. The Mech stages are wonderful while the 'on foot' stages are pretty stale.
Shogo is one of those interesting games that came out during the tail end of the 90s when anime was still cool and some US developers trying their hand at anime-like character designs.

It's made by Monolith, who have done FEAR and Condemned more recently. I think they put out quality games. I'm still waiting for Shogo 2...
It's worth noting the game can be pretty damn hard though. But yeah, it's not bad at all and was really fun back in the day. Like the others above said the mecha stages in the campaign aren't much, it's just more FPS action with you in a big suit basically, but the on foot stuff is really good. It's mission/level based and the stages are kind of small sometimes, maybe my only complaint.
All in all can't go wrong with it for $6.

I may be picking it up then in the near future. In the meantime, I managed to find my stepbrother's PC collection, including copies of Iron Storm, Painkiller Resurrection, and Brothers in Arms, so I should be ok.
I've already installed Iron Storm and made it to the second level, but this game is a brutal beast that makes you work for it. It's even got "mine dogs," which are dobermen with mines strapped to their backs. They explode when they get to you or get killed. Hilarity ensues. I feel like I'm having to crawl my way through this, but that's fine. I was in the mood for a challenge.
