Megadrive 2 scart cable problem

Post by JustinSane »

Hi guys I recently got out my megadrive 2 (emulators are good yeah, but the real thing is better!) and I modded it with a 60hrz switch. All is working with that (yey!). So I was using a composite cable and obviously needed a scart cable. I ordered one from ebay.

Problem is though, I am getting vertical lines across the whole screen. They are thin and white/grayish in colour. When the screen has white on it anywhere, there is a loud buzzing sound. This is seriously annoying!

So I emailed the seller and he had this to say:
sorry to hear you seem to be having problems with the cable. All cables are tested to make sure they are good quality before dispatch, on my own mega drive. The bars in the picture are from the rgb signal sent from the mega drive and not a fault with the cable. Some mega drives are really bad, some are not. I sold my old meg drive when I got an rgb cable due to this problem.

I have sold a lot of these cables and you are the first to say you are having problems. Do you have another mega drive you can try the cable on?

I've purchased rgb cables from eBay and other websites and not one of them have had any shielding. I will look into this though and see what info I can find.

If you want to return the cable for a refund I'm happy to accept returns.
Looking around doing some googling it seems he could be right. But surly there is a way to fix this?

Looking inside the scart it is similar to the mmmonkey cable in his tutorial with the resistors and whatnot.

I didn't get buzzing with the composite, but I can't get a colour pic with that sooo...

Emulation is so much easier but I wanna use my megadrive controllers and get the full experience *sigh*.
