Easy, either have them all or state that you are not allowing any paid DLC or promo gems.gradualmeltdown wrote:Now imagine running a tournament with several hundred people in it.

Rise above, as in, elevate your game so that if there is a problem, you develop yourself to overcome it. If a certain gem combination ends up dominating the game, then you should be able to build yourself up to overcome that combination. Simple as that.Balasubbie wrote:Aren't the gems just buffs like speed, power, defense et al? How can that not be game-breaking? And how can one rise above? As to practice you need to fight against other players and if a sizeable portion of them have got x-speed or x-defense advantage, you're fucked from the word 'fuck!'.
I guess its implementation will be key, obviously. I can see it leading to interesting dynamics, but if some jerfofferson just goes out any buys all the gems, sticks'em on at once, you're up fucked's creek and without a defuckifier.
Player-'Ha-ha, I gots a speed buff'
Jerkofferson-'Whereas I have too much money'
The inevitable ensues.
If you can't figure out how to do that, then you can always become the enemy, and incorporate the broken shit into your gameplan. You see, there's this thing about fighting games - you have the same options as your enemy.
The only thing I don't like about the Gems situation is the DLC. The fact that you won't have the same options as your opponents in all cases. That's why I say only ban the paid DLC gems.
There could always be the possibility that SFxT just isn't a serious tournament worthy game. Not all games were meant to be played at EVO.

Re: Street Fighter x Tekken
This dilemma would be solved if Capcom would actually include all of the gems with the game itself, instead of forcing you to pay for just to get ahead or even with the competition. Ridiculous.
Re: Street Fighter x Tekken
Well...you don't NEED the gems. I prefer to leave those types of things out anyways. 'cause there is a mode in which you don't use Gems...right?DomitorInvictus wrote:This dilemma would be solved if Capcom would actually include all of the gems with the game itself, instead of forcing you to pay for just to get ahead or even with the competition. The fact that there's even a tournament scene for SSB still baffles me. The game was most definitely NOT designed with that level of play in mind.

It should be around. Just featuring items at normal stock and on a random stage.AppleQueso wrote:The fact that there's even a tournament scene for SSB still baffles me. The game was most definitely NOT designed with that level of play in mind.

If you play any Smash Bros without items, YOU ARE NOT PLAYING SMASH BROS.EVOLghost wrote: you mean people actually play SSB with items?

Yeah, but if we're over-adoptive of the 'overcome and adapt' model, then developers and publishers, namely Capcom. will happily release unbalanced title after unbalanced title, as they'll know the community will silently and contently embrace any turds hurled at them, once they're hyped enough. This isn't 1995, where a game might have slight glitches that render thing unbalanced, and thus one has to raise their game to compensate. No, this is a company actively unbalancing their games in the name of quick, cheap, alienating profit. I get that there's options around them, somewhat, but the fact an unnecessary obstacle is being placed in the way still doesn't sit especially well with me. Nor, does what it may bode for future developments.the7k wrote:

Anyways, good points, sir.

'Overcome' and 'Adapt' are only two of the three options I mentioned.Balasubbie wrote:Yeah, but if we're over-adoptive of the 'overcome and adapt' model, then developers and publishers, namely Capcom. will happily release unbalanced title after unbalanced title, as they'll know the community will silently and contently embrace any turds hurled at them, once they're hyped enough. The third option is 'Find another game'.
NEVER forget that you have this option. I'm extremely displeased with SSF4 - as such, I won't be buying another. That's just the way it is. I have plenty of other options available to me without having to play a game I don't enjoy, even if it happens to be the most popular fighter available.
