Looking at getting a 32x, what should I know?

My knowledge of the system is fairly limited, but I want to expand my SEGA collection and this seems like a logical step since there aren't any Sega Saturns for sale locally (though I am obviously keeping an eye out for one).

I have a 2nd Model Genesis. The local pawn shop has a fair amount of 32x games are reasonable prices, what games should I focus on looking for? I'm not a big Sonic fan, and I'll most likely be picking up Virtua Fighter and Star Wars Arcade.

How much is too much to pay for a 32x? What all should I keep an eye out for when purchasing one?

Make sure you find a 32x with the connector cable to hook it up to the Genesis. That cable is a pain to find on its own.

I heard getting the connection wires are pretty hard to find.

Like the others said, make sure you have the pass through cable to connect to the Genesis itself, it would be even better if you had both cables to connect to a Genesis Model 1 which tends to have better audio quality.

Aside from that, the 32X only has about thirty games, and most people only like about ten of those. I can find reasons to play about twenty five of them though.

My home town doesn't really have any video game stores, or really any stores that have a decent selection of anything other than the newest systems aside from one pawn shop. That pawn shop, however, feels like a video game museum when you walk in.

That being said, of course, it's a pawn shop so you have to be really careful about things being way over-priced.

Given that this pawn shop actually guarantees their shit (if you take something home and it doesn't work they'll give you a full refund), plus they clean or fix everything when it comes in, test it, and all games are disk repaired, etc etc... I'm pretty sure that the connection cable for the Genesis will be there, but I will be sure to check.

Focus on North America model 32x and carts. It's the cheapest easiest route. Our cardboard boxes suck. While PAL or JPN 32x stuff carries a premium for too little practical gain if any.

I'm pretty sure you live in Video Game heaven. Around here all of the pawn shops carry the exact same PS2, Wii and 360 games and that's it! Aside from the one locally owned game store there is no retro gaming to be had here.

If you can solder, you can easily make your own connector cable for cheap. You can find a 32X unit with out the cable easier, and usually cheaper.

The 32X is a pretty underrated console in my opinion. There's only 36 games for it (only 34 in the states I believe), and while there are some stinkers, a pretty large amount of them are fun as hell. The 3D games will blow you away too, Metal Head is a great example, it doesn't look too good by today's standards, but realizing that you're playing it on basically a beefed up Genesis is a real trip. Virtua Racing is awesome too, probably the best port.

I've almost got half the 32X library, and even the golf game is decent, but I'm not much of a golf person. If you're looking to pick up some games, I've got a copy of Doom and Virtua Racing that I'm looking to sell. PM me if you're interested.
