GBASP Pelican Leather Glove?

Post by Mozgus »

Some of you may remember this article:

http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/06/ ... -life.html

Well recently, the battery and shell piece began getting looser and looser, to the point where a little bump or some shaking could cause the battery to disconnect and crash a game. This has been getting annoying, and there wasn't much I could seem to do about it, short of super gluing the entire shell piece on the gba. So I ripped the actual battery out of the plastic shell. To my surprise, the shell piece was there for a reason other than serving as a heatsink. The battery itself is much thicker than the official battery. Well poop, I can't install it using the original battery plate now.

Then a discovered a comment in a review on the product:

Apparently once you tear the battery out of the shell like I did, you can just slip the Pelican Leather Glove over the whole unit.

So I noticed glove on amazon, 1 unit left, $2, 98% feedback. Original retail price was $20. I just ordered it. Reviews seem to indicate that its a very nice fit and feels great, and of course protects the SP for the future. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen one of these? When it gets here, I'll let you guys know how it works out. With any luck, I'll have an even more comfy SP and still have the awesome battery life.

Got it. It works great. There's a metal plate in the back piece of leather that keeps the bulky battery in check without me actually feeling it's ridges. Overall, it's a nice tight fit, it protects the SP from almost all angles, it feels more comfortable. It just feels like you're holding a wallet. On the front, it simply says "SP" and "Pelican" as embedded font. Good buy.

Mildly. The thing has probably been sitting in the plastic retail case for years.
