The WASD keys are for moving, and the mouse acts as a right analog stick and trigger.

the arrows are pretty close to the mouse usually, making it hard to control both well. WASD is laid out like the arrows and also has other buttons nearby (for other actions). It really shouldn't be that much of a mystery.

You really need to start playing some PC games, noise.

Because it gives you easy access to a large number of other keys. The arrow keys are pretty isolated. Additionally, many earlier keyboards didn't have the arrow keys in the nice cross we have now, but they were four in a row.

That said, I don't use WASD, but I have a really weird setup that I developed myself when I decided to start using the mouse in the Quake 2 days. I use right click as move forward, S and G as strafe, and D and F as move backwards.

you've talked about this before, and I still feel that what you do an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. Please keep these filthy ideas off of this family forum.

Familiy forum? Do I need to link to the video game girls thread?

But you know what the best part of my control scheme is? When I was living in the dorms someone couldn't come up and start playing CS on my computer; everyone who tried gave up in five seconds.

Yeah. With WASD controlling movement, Q and E can be used either for leaning or as action buttons. Shift and Space are also close by for controlling movement speed and jumping. And most importantly of all, it gives quick access to the number keys, which usually are weapon selectors. Number keys are much more efficient that one button that you press over and over to flip through available weapons.

it is a mystery because you PC gamers are like some weird creature you only see a an expensive zoo. "Hey which buttons should we use to move up, down, left and right? OH I KNOW! W-A-S-D obviously." What??? I get that they're laid out like arrows, BUT why not sure E,S,D,F so you could at least feel the little bump on the F key and find it without looking down?

Fuck. This is WHY I do'nt play computer games. Buncha weirdos.

I was only asking because I'm pretty sure Half-Life + mods have kb/m option on Dreamcast. And I own DC kb and mouse so I'd at least give it a try.

If you think this is terrible, don't even bother with European-developed simulators.

Saturn Quake. I picked it up today, so I'm sure I'll be busy with it for a bit. Original NIN soundtrack = Bonus.
