Which Sega Saturn Controller?

Post by andymol21 »

Just bought a Saturn to USB converter and now I need a Saturn pad to use with it (I did it arse backwards, I know :P ) I'm a sega n00b as a 12 year-old on counterstrike might say, so which pad is best? There seem to be so many variations. My initial choice was a standard UK PAL black boring dull 6 button, but there seem to be 2 variations, an angular one (Mk1?) and a curvier one (Mk2?), and the Jap white controller looks amazing! Then theres 3rd party, but I've had bad experiences with those and the 32/64 bit era. Any help from you Saturn owners would be appreciated :D

I would say the mk2 is the best, although some people prefer the d-pad on the mk1 the shoulder buttons are abysmal and you'll be lucky to find one with too much life left in them so I'd personally go for the mk2.

As for the white/grey/transparent variations, well they are all just mk2's with different coloured shells so it depends on how the way it looks matters to you.

There are also the official analog pads to consider as well...

This has always been my favorite. I have two and they work great. The d-pad is awesome for every type of game. The triggers aren't perfect, but I've never had a problem.

Which model is this anyway?

I like the MKII as well. The NiGHTs Controller is pretty comfortable too.

Another vote for the MkII/JP pad.

The first one is terrible, go for the one that everyone keeps reccomending. I personally like the D-pad on it so much I did this to my model 1:

My model 1 saturn pad has the circular dents on the peaks of the d-pad.
