I gave them a longwinded email about how I do not support the United Way and support other charities - specifically Salvation Army and American Cancer Society, but got a nasty email from one of the brass stating that I should have give to this charity aswell. Why should I have to give, so my channel can win some contest, since we lost last year.
I used to work for Raytheon right out of college in the early 90s and yes, they had recruitment drives for United Way and for US Savings Bonds. It was ridiculous to see a small marching band go through the hallways with the division general manager in front. You weren't forced to participate but you would definitely get "encouragement" from a couple of people. :?

Smile: I'm giving a presentation on retro Japanese games to a class today. I'm going to start by giving a "show and tell" type presentation: passing a boxed Gamecube controller, Game Gear games, and a Neo Geo game around the class. Then we're going to play a handful of Super Famicom games. I've also photocopied a Neo Geo instruction booklet for the kids to read (what they can) and take home.

Frown: I wish I had brought more stuff. Originally, I was going to let another teacher borrow everything to give the presentation, so I didn't want to bring in anything too valuable or fragile. Oh well, maybe later this year I'll bring in my TurboDuo and CD games.

Ticked - one of my girlfriends coworkers is stealing from everyone in the office, they know who it is and just have to catch her doing it, it is just a bad work environment

Smiled - I might have just found a new 4 slot board with Metal Slug for sale in my price range (now to sell the tickets for the football game I just won so I can pay for it).

Thanks for this. I'm still a little confused on what the protestors are fighting for if they don't have that one simple answer, but people definitely have a right to protest and state their opinion. And I apologize for not knowing what is going on, but other than protesting, are the protestors united on a handful of solutions, or are a bunch of people protesting about the 1%?

I honestly don't feel educated and informed enough to speak on what possible solutions are available, but what I'm getting is that (and correct me if I'm wrong) the crux of this is that people are feeling that they are being bamboozled by the rich. The rich get kickbacks and bailouts, while the middle class gets taxed out the you know what.

All I do know is that the statement is "Occupy Wall Street". Is there an "Occupy DC"?

I'm not taking any sides on this issue, as there are so many assumptions on both sides of the coin, but JT, or anyone: can you recommend a unbiased source to read more about this situation? I read the WSJ, but I don't think they'll provide an unbiased opinion.

That sucks. Even if and when someone catches her, HR will have to look over everything with a fine toothed comb. The last thing you need is getting a lawsuit over catching someone stealing.

The Occupy movement started from some ideas brewing at Ad Busters. The original idea behind the protest was that there be one demand: "ordain a Presidential Commission tasked with ending the influence money has over our representatives in Washington". (Adbusters from July 13th, 2011)

It's ironic now, but this was their initial poster for the protest.

The main criticism of the movement now is that there is not a clear central message. No one, not even Ad Busters, has really taken a leader position and as the protests have popularized and spread to over 900 cities across the world, that single vision has somewhat been lost. There are people with varying degrees of knowledge about what is going on; however, most people there at least realize that it is protest about economic disparity. The complexity of the issues has led to many related causes being tacked on to the growing list of complaints, but that has led to more confusion outside and inside the group about what the protests are actually about.

As I mentioned above, the initial complaint was lobbed at DC, but in regards to how Wall Street is regulated and the role this plays in creating a class divide. While there is certainly a desire for change from DC, they picked Wall Street for the location as it is iconic for the source of the problems.

As with most complex political issues, it's hard to find just one unbiased source. I usually read across sources both for and against and figure the truth is somewhere in the middle. I do feel like Wikipedia has been a good resource for learning about the movement and the subprime mortgage crisis that prompted much of this. Wikipedia is always subject to change of course, but I think there has been more concern for objectivity there than in the news media.

Smile: Finally received one of my eBay packages today. This one took longer than expected to get here.

Ticked: The seller didn't unfold the box, which was the one part I actually wanted. Seriously, you send this shit in a non-padded envelope (which had a hole in it upon arrival) and LEAVE THE BOX INTACT?!

Idiot.

Sucks man. :( I've been there all too often. In fact, I'm in the middle of an eBay dispute for a game that was insufficiently packaged. Ticks me off so bad.

Make 'em pay! :x
