You should watch London Hearts. They always have them on there.

Oh dude, it's THE best Japanese variety show. I am sure somebody like you would love it. The shit they do on that show is hilariously scandalous. Especially "Idol Trap" where they get a hot model type to try and pick up on a guy to make him feel special. Then they orchestrate all of these bad things to happen on their 'date' (like an actor who plays the girl's angry jealous ex) and in the end they reveal to the guy it was all a set-up for laughs. That is just one of the many different things they do on that show. Some of it is borderline unethical.

One thing worth noting is that that all of the regular guests are mostly washed-up celebrities who were banished by scandals.

I watched it. Wow, that was a terribly mean prank to pull on that guy. The London Hearts guys are fucking assholes.

Some things were funny, but overall I felt really bad watching this. He was on the verge of losing it so many times at the end. Such a horrible thing to do to someone.

And there was no sign of newhalfs or anything of the sort. I was secretly hoping Idol Trap meant that the idol was actually a man.

I was kind of following along, but couldn't understand what the prank was. Were they just making the chick lead him on the whole time and screw with him? I didn't understand all of it, but I got the gist they were being d-bags.

Oh, not every episode has them, but they bring them around sometimes when they are needed for comedy bits.

Perhaps you shouldn't watch that show then. I didn't know you'd find that kind of thing disagreeable. That episode is pretty tame compared to other 'traps' they set up for people. There are other things they do that are even worse.

For my Japanese listening I usually watch dramas instead of Japanese. I definitely prefer to watch comedy, action, or mystery oriented ones though as the emotional stuff can get to be too much at times. Does anyone else watch dramas? For studying kanji and vocabulary I use a combination of Anki and two apps called Kanji Flip and Japanese Flip. I usually leave one of these apps open on my iPod touch at work and work on something about every minute or so. I also enjoy playing some games in Japanese where I already know the plot, like FFVI, or where the plot isn't that important, like Harvest Moon.
