WiiWare Recommendations

Post by Weekend_Warrior »

Here are a few WiiWare games that I would recommend.

1. FAST: Racing League - This is a WiiWare game that looks and plays like a Wipeout clone. But for those of you who have been waiting for a new F-Zero game from Nintendo, then I can assure you that this is certainly the next best thing, and probably the only racing game of this caliber that we will see on the Nintendo Wii. It has beautiful graphics and a very steady frame-rate. It's well worth checking out if you like fast, frantic racing games!

2. Driift Mania *Yes. Actually spelled with two i's* - Do you like overhead racing games? Better yet, do you like classic overhead racing games like Super Sprint and Super Off-Road? Well then, this game by Konami is just for you. It has nice colorful graphics, supports up to 8 players, and has both standard race tracks and off-road tracks (ala Super Off-Road). Beyond the standard race game, there are also competitive modes like "VIP", in which players must protect a designated player's vehicle, "Contamination" in which a player must try to 'infect' others by crashing into them, "Cold Potato" where players scramble for the said vegetable on the track, and "Meteorite" which involves players racing during a deadly meteor shower.

3. Motoheroz - From the makers of Trials HD on the Xbox 360, comes this fun little side-scrolling racer that plays very similar to Trials yet adds in the ability to race against four-players! The game has three main modes: classic single player, a two to four player local party mode, and a new type of daily online competition, in which a new online track opens up every day to give you constant new opportunities for the top of the Leader Boards. The game also sports a nice 60 fps, has widescreen support, and features over 100+ tracks!

Arkanoid Plus is a great installment in the Arkanoid series with new levels and goes for 600 Nintendo points, which at that price is a steal.

Cave Story. Nuff said.

The Rebirth series are great games by Konami, Contra Rebirth being my favorite. I believe they all retail for 1000 Nintendo points.

I have a bunch of DSiware games and VC games but zilch Wiiware so I'm definitely interested in hearing people's opinions on this.

You mean Megaman 9 and 10. Megaman 8 was for the Sega Saturn and later ported to the Playstation 1, and then the PS1 build was ported all over the place, but not on the Wii.

MEGA BUMP, but I fired my Wii up yesterday for the first time in ages and found loads of new demos waiting for me in the store. One of them (so far) has stood out from the crowd and made me go ahead and download the full game.
In fact, with the Wii now in it's twilight, I was inspired to come here and share my favourite WiiWare games from down the years (I only have 4 - quality not quantity! :) )

1) Nyx Quest: Kindred Spirits

Really nice puzzle platformer with great visuals, music and intuitive use of the Wii remote

2) Lost Winds

The first Wii Ware game I downloaded waaay back in 2008 when I wanted to see what the service was all about. This seemed to be the pick of the bunch at the time. Another fun 2D puzzle platformer (can you tell that I like the genre?) :)

3) 2 Fast 4 Gnomz

The title makes it sound like shovelware, though it's anything but! Frantic, fun 2D platformer - challenging to boot! Only 500 points as well! (This is the newest addition to my WiiWare library)

4) Sonic 4: Episode 1

Sure, the physics were a bit less refined than they could have been, but I still had fun

Can't believe the Wii's time is almost up... Where does the time go?

Cave Story. There's better versions, but the Wii one is still amazing.
