I saw a bit of what you mean in a youtube video, but does she ever have to use her animal forms for combat?

That's a good question. It's been a while since I've played the game and I never did get too far, but I think you can use the animal forms for combat. I know you need their abilities to reach new areas. Maybe someone else can clear it up?

I-No from Guilty Gear XX fights with a guitar.

Yeah, I remember her. But does she just hit people with the guitar or does she actually play music on it for attacks?

A lot of her attacks involve her playing chords which shoot electrical sparks at you, etc.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Yurika from Project Justice uses a violin as a weapon. She is in the beginning of the video.

Tekken / 3rd strike

Capoeira (Portuguese pronunciation: [kapuˈejɾɐ]) is a Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports, and music. It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power kicks and quick leg sweeps, with some ground and aerial acrobatics, knee strikes, take-downs, elbow strikes, punches and headbutts.

The word capoeira comes from Tupi, referring to the areas of low vegetation in the Brazilian interior.

Correct.

You start off only as Grave, but both he and Jyuji Kabane become available as playable characters very soon after. I'm not familiar with the anime, but the game is top-notch fun.

Fret Nice (XLBA/PSN)

2D platformer where you use a guitar as your weapon. It's supposed to be played with a Guitar Hero guitar, but is much better with a normal controller. It's fun, has an outstanding art style, even better music and is very underrated.
