I haven't made too many financial blunders but I did pay a substantial amount of money for a Japanese PS3 at launch. I had the, "need shiny new electronic!" syndrome. I eventually picked up a North American system and sold the the other one for far less. I still rarely use it.

How, I don't know. That one really bummed me out.

I used a shitty tool called a Game Doctor and ruined a lot of perfectly playable games thinking it would remove scratches, as advertised. Instead, I ended up with a lot of ugly games with radial buff marks. I was a kid, so, lesson learned.

Thought of another one:
When I was in high school, I used the SNES9X emulator quite a bit. I mainly played turn-based RPGs so the keyboard was fine, but I eventually wanted to check out some more action-oriented games.
So I got a Garvis gamepad and went to program it for use on the computer. Here's the dumbass part: instead of configuring the controller right through SNES9X I programmed in the Gamepad buttons as Windows hotkeys and then configured those keys into the emulator.
Whenever I played a game there was about a one second lag between a button push and an action. I remember playing EVO and thinking "Wow this game sucks, glad I didn't get the real thing!"
Yeah...

Yes, my friend refused to play Descent with me anymore, since his game would often hitch due to using virtual memory on his 4MB system (DOS Descent had its own virtual memory system). Meanwhile, I was loading the entire game into RAM via smartdrv.Breetai wrote:I did that... but it wasn't for Primal Rage. It was with stuff like NHL '96, Terminal Velocity, Doom 2, Descent, etc. in mind. Not for... RAM was expensive back then!

I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten that one game or another doesn't have an auto save feature.

one of the key points that's kept me away from 360. I have a Wii and a PS3 (or two)... I just can't see paying for the online feature.

So go with my solution; buy one and only play region free shmups and exclusive RPGs.noiseredux wrote:Luke wrote:I signed up for this thing called xbox live. Netflix shitathons aside, it's useless.
