This game completely lost my interest and support the moment they revealed the cash in DLC crap that is the Gem System :/

I was only getting mildly excited for it 'til I read of this gem thing. It's a bit fucked, I can see it getting a global tournament ban.

Yup! I hope Namco doesn't pull this type of DLC cash in shit with their version. I'm optimistic that it won't...

They need to confirm MegaMan & Pacman in this game :P we need pixelated characters in a 3D game.

Except that they can't ban it - it cannot be disabled.

I say, just make non-DLC gems tournament legal (unless certain gems break the game). Cutting out all the gems just because they MIGHT break the game/break the wallets of TOs is going a bit far.

If you don't like the gems, you have exactly three options, and they just so happen to be the same options you have with every fighter:
1) Elevate your game so that you can rise above the problem.
2) Become the enemy and adopt the problem into your gameplan.
3) Find another damn game to play. There's literally hundreds of fighters out there, and there's at least a dozen fighters out there that are currently being played competitively.

Banning all the gems would be cutting away A LARGE PART of this game's depth. That's fucking ridiculous. It'd be like if Smash Bros communities banned items all together... oh wait...

Aren't the gems just buffs like speed, power, defense et al? How can that not be game-breaking? And how can one rise above? As to practice you need to fight against other players and if a sizeable portion of them have got x-speed or x-defense advantage, you're fucked from the word 'fuck!'.

I guess its implementation will be key, obviously. I can see it leading to interesting dynamics, but if some jerfofferson just goes out any buys all the gems, sticks'em on at once, you're up fucked's creek and without a defuckifier.

Player-'Ha-ha, I gots a speed buff'

Jerkofferson-'Whereas I have too much money'

The inevitable ensues.

I was down with everything about Gems until they announced paid DLC and bonus DLC based upon which retailer you pre-order at. I can look past the character select screen taking 5 minutes to select them all. Game balance doesn't really matter as long gems make it fun to learn things and use them on people creatively. Even if more than half the characters and gem strategies are crap in high level play the game can still be played competitively. Look at SF3, MCV 2, and SSF4 AE. Every game is "broken" until the next strategy is built and becomes the new "broken"

Sandbox fighting games can work, but not when everyone's sandbox has a different set of toys. How can you even play the game casually other than online? What if you like a certain set of gems but go to your friends house who doesn't have them? All kinds of crap. Now imagine running a tournament with several hundred people in it.
