^ Ditto! This, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Saints Row 3 are my most anticipated games right now. This is a good time for gaming.

Re: Batman: Arkham City(New Trailer 6/1/11)
I love this little bit I read in a review:
"Despite this review's headline, Batman: Arkham City confirms a train of thought that originated when I saw Batman Begins: It's not just a superhero action game, it's also an inverse-horror game. Consider this situation: Four buddies hanging out in what can be considered a haunted steel mill. They talk about mundane things like what they did earlier that day, or their bets on which local community leader-type person will ultimately gain control of the area. In the tradition of horror movies, they stupidly split up. One of them hears a strange whooshing noise and runs off to investigate. One glimpses the quick movement of shadow around the corner. Then things get weirder.
At this point, random machines start turning; their guns suddenly jam up for no apparent reason; mines prematurely detonate; and walls suddenly explode. Amid all of these jump scares, the guys start disappearing. The one who ran to investigate the random sound gets found strung up above. The one who walked too close to a weak wall gets caught in said wall's explosive collapse. The third one panics, fires his gun only to see it has been rendered ineffective, and while running to get a new firearm, finds himself locked in a sleeper hold. The last fellow thinks he's clever by using his thermal imaging goggles to look up and around, but even he succumbs to sheer terror when he sees a man-sized bat in front -- followed by smoke appearing all around him, his gun getting yanked away. And when the smoke clears, he doesn't see that the shadowy man is about to land on him feet-first with full force.
The terror of the Batman isn't confined to moments of stealthy predation; simple and straightforward melee combat also displays just how scary he is to other people. Arkham City lets you create the sort of whispered urban legend that starts with, "Remember when twelve guys tried to take down the Batman?" You can then embellish that tale with descriptions of how freakin' fast Batman is -- that is, how he seems to effortlessly vault from victim to victim. How he can be in the middle of delivering a savage beatdown to an armored foe, and still quickly counter someone attempting a cheap shot from behind. Or how he tases the one guy with the sledgehammer who then wildly swings it around as a reflex to hit everyone else. It's you, the player, who makes it so that when some thug tosses a chair towards Batman, he simply swats it away before turning his attention to someone else."

Re: Batman: Arkham City(New Trailer 6/1/11)
Well they actually went and did it. I was working my way through the game's main story and who makes a grand, and might I add, BADASS entrance?
Yup, the Boy Wonder and he actually has a cool costume. I won't say which Robin it is, but I was very happy with his appearance. He actually shows up during a part of the story that involves yet another awesome character that I won't spoil.
This game is the definitive Batman game. My only minor gripe is some of the changes they made to the combat system that I'm having some difficulty adjusting to, but it's all here. EVERYTHING that makes Batman awesome

Re: Batman: Arkham City
I just beat Arkham Asylum last night (got the Walmart buy A City get A Asylum for free) and will probably start Arkham City on Thursday.
Batman for the NES was my favorite comic book video game ever, but Batman AA replaced it... so I can't wait to play Arkham City.

Haha, yeah. She's kind of fun to play for. I'm surprised to say that when I first got the run of Arkham City with her I was having a little more fun than when playing as Batman. I'm not even that big of a Catwoman fanXeogred wrote:Catwoman is
There are some cool things about this game I love, like when I come across a group of thugs and a fight breaks out. Then a patrol helicopter flies overhead and puts a spotlight on the ground and I hear a guy say over the radio, "Batman spotted". This is soon followed by, "he's beating the crap out of those guys!"
There was this one fight I had that was awesome too. I'm overlooking some thugs from a rooftop. I use my grappling hook to yank a gun out of one of the guy's hands. Then I swoop down and knock another thug to the ground. Fight breaks out, two guys come at me. I counter and Batman grabs both of them and slams them to the ground! Then another guy goes for the gun again, I activate a special move and Batman grabs the gun and completely destroys it! Awesome!
I love that you can take out guys with Batarangs now too. I tossed three of them at some dumbass thug running towards me on a street and the camera zooms in on him in slow mo as the last one knocks him out
This game has so many damn awesome cameos too! Robin wasn't the first character in the game to catch me by surprise

Agreed. I love Batman on the NES even to this day.Although I never actually beat the game but hey I'll get there.SpaceBooger wrote:I just beat Arkham Asylum last night (got the Walmart buy A City get A Asylum for free) and will probably start Arkham City on Thursday.

I beat Asylum too and working on Arkham City now. I don't mind Catwoman as a playable character in the game, it will be interesting to see how she plays out. So Nightwing and Robin are DLC then? When are they available again? The clerk at Gamestop told me but I fogot what dates he said. Are there any other downloadable characters?
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
Re: Batman: Arkham City
I put this down after the "ending" when I found only a bunch of missions to do with both Catwoman and Batman. I'm not but 45% done with the game and I could consider trading it right now and waiting for a price drop. Sand boxes really aren't my thing, but it is better than just playing challenge scenarios in Arkham Asylum.
Somebody tell me that getting further in Riddler secrets and whatnot opens up more compelling sub plots.

Re: Batman: Arkham City
This is actually better than most sandbox games I've played. The city is not as annoyingly large as other sandbox games so you don't get lost or spend what feels like two years getting from one place to the next. Plus, you don't have people constantly sniping at you from rooftops like that annoying game Infamous. The game does an amazing job of keeping track of every mission, both story related and optional. It even gives you ways of finding and marking Riddle trophies on your map. There's some real cleverness in acquiring some of them too. Nice puzzle solving elements. Plus, every side mission I have played thus far has had a lot of thought put into it. Nothing feels like the throw away side missions of other games and you get a lot of cool character cameos and story telling through the side missions to really flesh out that Batman experience. This is sandbox done right, by trimming much of the fat away from those types of games. Proof once again of what I always say, keeping it simple is always the best way
Much like Arkham Asylum, this game is a polished and forward thinking game that puts so many other titles to shame in just the amount of intelligence shown in its design. It's rare to play a game today where nothing feels lazy and half-assed. Nothing feels wasted or just thrown in from what I have played so far.
I loved Batman on the NES too, though I think the Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SNES was the best 2d Batman game. I think in some ways it even sets the template for Arkham Asylum and Arkham City in borrowing so heavily from Batman the Animated Series
I'm hoping that since Nightwing is DLC he pops up in the story at some point the way Robin does
