once upon a time (when i was like 10ish or so) when FF7 was about to launch (or maybe it was for jet moto 2) Mountain Dew was doing a PS1 give away as well as other various related products typical no purchase necessary kind of thing. At this point i sat down and hand wrote 20 letter to the company requesting game pieces because the rules stated 1 letter = 1 scratch off game piece, about 2 weeks later i than received 20 game pieces from the pepsi company and i scratched them all off, one game piece said i had won a playstation game console at that age i had never herd what a console was nor was i inclined (for some stupid reason) to find out the definition of the word or call any one to find out.....i just tossed the game piece aside assuming it was some minor prize still scratching away looking for the congratulations you won a playstation game system (or something to this effect).....after all wtf is a console right ;)

to this day i STILL facepalm myself over this :/

Not mine, but a person I know had a grandfather who disowned this person's part of the family. Upon the grandfather's death, they took to cleaning his house. This person found about 20 NES games, still in original plastic, and a NES in original plastic. He offered me to help him do something with them, and I offered to help him sell them for 60% profits. He agreed. The next day, we met and I had an estimate of how much everything was worth. (Close to 2,000$, but may have been more or less.) And... DUN DUN DUUUUH!!!

He had opened all of it.

Uh, why did he open everything? Did he want to play them or what? Isn't it common sense that new stuff is worth more than used?

The image was a facepalm, BTW.

He said he wanted to play them. He didn't understand me being mad even after I explained he could have bought all of that over twice and still have money left to spare. Idiot.

I've sold off large amounts of my collection twice. The first time was good, the second time was stupid.

Now i've done some dumb stuff while trying some system mods, but at least I learned from those mistakes, and i've regretted selling a few games on Ebay, but I got a fair price for them. As for straight up stupid-

As a kid and teenager every console and game I had was either lost or tossed by the time I was 18.

My first summer after graduating high school I bought a 2600 at a thrift store for $5 on a whim, and in a spur of the moment incident threw it out of my moving car at somebody, one of those "you had to be there" moments.

About fifteen years ago I bought "Rise of the Robots" brand new for $60 plus tax.

Eleven years ago I tossed a boxed Virtual Boy and 5 games I had bought on clearance a couple years earlier in the trash.

At the time of their release, and after I had played them through, I lent out Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger, neither of which I ever saw again.

I've traded in original copies of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tales of Destiny, and a silver GBA SP for peanuts.

And not gaming related but I once traded a 60's era Fender guitar amp passed on from a distant family member for a stack of 70's-80's comic books. Guess which are worth more?

Either this or Horseman's story. They're both so horrible they make me want to facepalm the people responsible.
