Super FX stuff are Star Fox, Vortex, and games like that. Sounds like you just need to clean the cart slot.Xeogred wrote: My first SNES that I've had since 1994 still works a bit, but Super FX graphics (I think), don't work at all anymore. Stuff like the overworld maps in Zelda LTTP, Secret of Mana, etc, they are completely messed up on the screen. The system is pretty brown too, yuck. My other SNES that I got from my grandparents several years ago is still perfect though, it was one they owned for us kids and my cousins, but it was never used outside of that so it's like mint condition practically.

Exactly. If the next Xbox actually works and doesn't break after a few years, I can actually begin to consider buying one.Lone Wanderer wrote:How about reliability? That'd be nice
There is a law that bans lead solder, right? If that's really the problem, Microsoft and Sony need to do something. Convince the government that little kids aren't going to be eating their game consoles, so they should be allowed to use it. Or put a fucking warning label on the box that says not to eat your Xbox. >_>
Re: Next Gen Xbox - Your Thoughts?
I figured I was wrong there since those games have Super FX chips specifically (I think).Hobie-wan wrote:Super FX stuff are Star Fox, Vortex, and games like that. By "cart slot", do you mean on the actual SNES? Since those games worked perfectly fine the way they should on the newer SNES I use.
Re: Next Gen Xbox - Your Thoughts?
I am not really sure where the next generation console is going. As for graphics, PS3/360 graphics still look amazing even though I can see how it can be improved, I dont think I will switch on the PS4 and go "OH WOW!!! LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS" I just dont think that jump is here. I could be wrong.
other than graphics I dunno what else. Look at what we have already:
-Storage: 100's of Giggs
-Online gameplay
-downloadable and streaming movies,shows,sport events
-25/50GB disc capacity on bluray(adding bluray to next xbox wont be amazing like ps2 dvd)
-DLC, XBL, indie games xbox originals
-Motion controls
I dunno, I guess we have everything we want right now. I really dont know whats coming next.

I don't think reliability is an issue here. Microsoft already has the most reliable hardware on the market, the 360 Slim. They won't go backwards with this new console, they learned from their mistakes with the original 360.
Re: Next Gen Xbox - Your Thoughts?
I have been through two SNESs in the last ten years because of defective cart ports. My two NESs presently have varying degrees of blinking light problems, one is severe, the other one not bad. My NESs and SNES need to have the cartridges cleaned with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol if I want most games to load. By comparison, I have never had a Sega console fail, but I did go through two DUOs before settling on a DUO/R.
My PS2 has had the laser adjusted twice. My 360 has been factory repaired for the 3RL error three times but has worked like a charm since 2008. I don't really expect reliability from modern electronics, planned obsolescence has pretty much guaranteed that we won't be able to use anything past five years anyway. I don't expect my brand new LCD TV to be around with regular use in eight years either.
That said, I expect the next Xbox to have gobs of RAM, CPU cores and a modified version of whatever the top of the line PC graphics chip happens to be that year. I hope that my XBLA games will be compatible with it, but I don't expect backward compatibility with previous Xbox disc based games.
Hopefully by 2014 Bluray will be on the way out or they will figure out how to make its load times as fast as DVD is, and thus eliminate the need for multi-gigabyte installs before playing.
My pipe dream hopes would be the elimination of syndicated releases and renaissance of video game development creativity. Since that isn't going to happen, my interests die with the current gen, unless they make a holodeck that is.

Only if you don't count Nintendo's Wii. I know it's one generation behind, but it is "on the market".darthmunky wrote:I don't think reliability is an issue here. Does the 360 Slim use lead solder? They finally fixed their shit?
