Poll: SNES Setup Question

Hello folks. I just have a quick question for ya. Say you have two Super Nintendos. One is model 1 and yellowed, the other is Jr and looks new still. Which one would you prefer to have out in the living room and which one would you prefer to keep away in the bedroom. Neither have been modded, but if one were to be modded (perhaps starting with sawing off the tabs to make it compatible with NTSC-J), it would be the model 1 with yellowing. Both in the living room is not an option.

Opinions?

I say disassemble the model 1 and bleach the shell, and then put that one in the living room. Represent with original hardware!

Also, let me know if you want a Famicom.

Any recommended bleaching practices? I saw one article, I think linked from here, where a certain chemical scrub was applied and left out in the sun where reverse yellowing occurred. I don't have that luxury, because as we all know, if you leave something out in New York City, it will get stolen. Down the road, I totally agree, a nice original hardware (even though the jr is next to the model 2 genny ) should be displayed, but as for now, yellowed or jr?

Do a search of Retr0brite and a thread should pop up. I forgot which member created the thread, but it was great because it has everything you need listed as well as photos of their own results. Ive been meaning to do it on my yellowed Famicom, just haven't gotten to it yet.

I'll check more into the magic erasers, but last I heard they didn't work very well. I'll do the peroxide thing sooner or later, but it's winter now, and I have no UV lamp.

Bring out the SNES mini, it takes up less space and looks better than a yellowed model 1. Once you mod it for S-video and RGB output you're in business!

What is the design style of the room? Arts and Crafts, New Age, etc??? This would play a role.

Why the living room, ie, do you have a dedicated game room, or is this the only feasible place as in - the living room or nowhere?

Yeah, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so it's living room or bedroom. So far the only things in the bedroom are the other SNES and the other N64.

The living room as a whole I would think is modernistic with some traditionalist aspects here and there.

Bring out the SNES mini, it takes up less space and looks better than a yellowed model 1. Once you mod it for S-video and RGB output you're in business!

I'm thinking the model 2 Genesis should be first since it still only has RF output.

I'm almost always obsessive about this stuff - so here goes.

That stand is nice, can go w/most motif's. It has sharp crisp lines up top, and smooth and rounded down low. So that won't affect which console display.

For overall balance, i'd go w/the full-size. If you had a NES top loader and a model 3 GEN, i'd lean toward the mini, but for the sake of uniformity, go model 1 SNES.

And...apparently you really are always playing Galaga

I believe you can also use a UV light setup instead of leaving it out in the sun...but unless you're already doing indoor gardening (and thus have a setup), it'd probably be more cost-effective to buy a non-yellowed SNES.
