Did you guys know that Xbox was supposed to be DC compatible
I just read this recently (I believe on the Dreamcast Junkyard). I guess when MS was working on the original Xbox and Sega had signed on as big-time 3rd party dev support, there was a plan to make the Xbox also play DC games. Apparently what blew the deal was that MS didn't want to set up a separate server to support online for the DC games. Anyway, it's kind of too bad it didn't happen. Certainly would have been an interesting selling point. Hell, I'd probably have an Xbox now instead of a DC myself.

I wouldn't been so happy since it would save space on my shelf
Oh well, at least Sega released a bunch of great games such as Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, Otogi 1 & 2, Jet Set Radio Future, etc.

It sure would have been cool if they managed that huh?
On a what if note, it makes me wonder if Sega might have eventually published games exclusively for xbox systems. Things like the Mario/Sonic crossover might never have happened.

Yeah I heard about this awhile back. Considering the hamburger Xbox controller and the DC controller are so damn similar, it's not surprising at all... haha.

There is no way this was ever seriously considered. The Xbox's launch price was $300, presumably at a massive loss, and the only way to include Dreamcast support would be to include the hardware. Then there's the fact that 90% of the Dreamcast library failed to sell when the Dreamcast was selling well.

Actually it was quite close to being a reality. Regardless at the loss of each hardware sold, Microsoft never really saw it as an opportunity to make money with the Xbox. They just wanted to plant their feet in the console market and be a significant player for the next console generation, regardless of profit or lack thereof. There is no way this was ever seriously considered. If it did happen, then perhaps the Xbox would have stood a better chance in the Asian market where the system didn't even exist. In any case, i'm actually glad it didn't happen. I love the little white box
