But I enjoy seeing the advances they make with the series. I can appreciate the fact that they strive to bring realism for those that enjoy it.
Maybe if I was more of a car guy like my brother I'd be really into it, but I just don't have the patience to learn the ins and outs.
i definately see what you're saying here and a couple years ago i would have been in the same boat. but i would encourage you to pick up GT3 for next to nothing and give simulation mode a spin. it's so deep and rewarding once you get past the initial learning curve. personally i enjoy the collecting/buying/selling/upgrading/tuning at least as much as teh racing itself! it's like car pokemon. gotta catch em all!

I spent a long time on all the GT games.

1 and 2 on the PS1, I got both to 100% complete and all golds in all the license tests, I was even so sad I restarted 2 and got the 100% winning ratio back up to 100% complete.

Anyway GT1, what an amazing game for the time. It was like my console dreams were answered when this came along. I loved the game, spent way to long on it. I was one of the firsat to figure out how to get the escudo to do wheelies along the straights on the test track. When you go back to this game after playing the later ones it seems like your watching it on fast forward on an old vhs, the draw distance and pop ups quite bad to the 2nd one.

GT2, this is the choice if you have a PS1 and have a limited budget or just don't want to waste money on an old game. Difficulty wise the licenses are slightly harder than the first game, theres more cars and traks than the original and it introduced offroad tracks. As i said I would get this version for the ps1 if I was choosing. The games much bigger than the first as well so more races to do.

GT3, this is the one game I don't own, I have played it a few times, i got all the licenses for my friend on it but I just never thought it was worth the cash over the 2nd game. The licenses are quite tricky on it though so its more challenging in that respect. I will get it though as I hate not having complete series of games.

GT4, this is the one for you to get out of all 4 if you only have a ps2. The 'Ring' was a very welcome addition to the party as well, only issue is each laps 10 minutes so can get boring. Again more cars and combinations of tracks so again more fun. The menu area in simulation is also far superior to 3 in my opinion.

As for drifitng etc, you can do that in all the games, you just need to know how to set the cars up.

GT4 is cheaper than 3 I have found over here in the UK, 3 is quite rare, especially in non platinum casing.

Gt5 i have yet to play, its making me get itchy feet to buy a PS3 just for that.

I thought the Escudo Was only in GT2 onwards. Anyways how do you make it wheelie? I'm guessing put max downforce on the back and minimum on the front. Buy the big turbo to give it 1800bhp and Bob's your sister, your doing wheelies.( That's the only way I can think to make it happen.)

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

is it 2? I can't recall which one its in.

But yeah max downforce rear, min front and I can't recall the gearing settings but you need to alter them to get it lifting up to its max. Think the fastest it goes is 464kph, I'll check later when I get in.

For what comes to mind right now, mine would have to be F-Zero GX, NFS2:Hot Pursuit, and Excite Truck.

F-Zero GX is possibly the greatest racing game in my mind.
Mario Kart DS is my second favorite

I've had a great deal of fun with the entire series. I've logged countless hours in competition with a good friend of mine. We even created a travelling trophy that day's winner would take home if he won more often that day. It's travelled back and forth quite a lot.

GT3 was disappointing in that many of the things that made GT2 such a remarkable improvement over GT1 (which I though would be impossible to do) was removed from GT3. GT4 brought much of it back but eliminated the ability to build street cars into full blown race cars, GT4 always keeps a line drawn between full blown race cars and highly modified street cars which I found arbitrary and frustrating. Overall, GT4 is still the best of the first four.

I haven't tried GT5 yet but I suspect I will soon.
