I'm pretty sure this has been talked about off and on for a long time now, and everything I've heard about this proposed remake has been completely terrible. Actually last I heard they were hitting a bunch of hurdles. Honestly here's hoping its a project that stays in development hell for as long as possible, if not outright cancelled.
There's anime/manga that could work as a hollywood live action film (Gunsmith Cats comes to mind immediately) but Akira is not one of them.
I watched 300 last night. It was good, but it's a good thing it didn't go on any longer than it did, because the whole thing would have got old. Also, even though I don't know Greek history too well, I can tell lots of liberties were taken.

It's based on a comic book, not the actual historical event, per se. The comic it's based off of is based on the actual historical event, but makes no excuses about over-fictionalizing it.
Love that movie, the over stylized look of it is just fantastic looking, IMO. The same way the Sin City movie is.

Is Leonardo Dicaprio still attached to this? I remember that was the rumor a few years ago, as apparently he's quite fond of Akira and anime in general.
