I don't think the story in FFVII is as bad as some people make it out to be. I've experienced far worse in video games. I remember Quest 64 as well.dunpeal2064 wrote:Although VII had some pretty bad writing in the main.story, I still enjoed the little twists and character development. Though, most of the characters didn't progress at all, a couple of them were interesting.
Sadly, its hype has caused anti-hype, and now its usually love it or hate it.
I don't think it has nearly the worst story in any game I've played. But, I've played a lot of games (Like Quest 64)

But has anyone said that Quest 64 had the greatest story...?

No, just that ffvii had one of the worst. There are many games out there with really poor stories, and Quest 64 was just an example.o.pwuaioc wrote:But has anyone said that Quest 64 had the greatest story...?
However, I would not argue that it had the best story, or even the best final fantasy story. I still love the game though, purely from nostalgia.

When people say things like that - don't get me wrong, it annoys me that they do it too! - I always tend to think they really mean it has one of the worst of X out of all that are critically acclaimed. I hear people not liking a movie saying that it's the worst movie ever. No way. I've worked at Blockbuster, and I've had free access to tons of movies. Many of which are worse than, for example, Inception or Lord of the Rings. Yet people regularly decry those two (again, as examples). In reality, it's merely that Inception or LotR are two of the worse (again, not my opinion...well, Inception maybe) out of the movies that are acclaimed as being great. So, the opinions thrown out is not that FFVII is the worst out of all the games, but the worst out of all the so-called good games.

There's a great irony there that I think some people will catch on toBoringSupreez wrote:Yes, that's very lazy. I hate when a character is on the verge of death and the suddenly woosh! Magic save! This sort of stuff is probably why Batman has more appeal these days than "magical" superheroes like Superman.BoneSnapDeez wrote:One of my biggest pet peeves is when fantasy and science fiction writers rely so much on "magic" (or "mana" or "life force") as a plot device. It's lazy as hell.

I have to say that the Bigfoot mission in Red Dead Undead really got to me. It was probably one of the hardest to sit through scenes in a game I have ever seen.

I think MGS3 or 4 made me shed a tear, I just can't remember for sure. My manly tears are precious and limited, therefore, I do not waste them.
