Neo Geo Emulation

Post by andymol21 »

I'm trying to get Neo Geo emulation working through Maximus Arcade so that I can take part in this months Together Retro. Unfortunately, none of the emulators I have tried work consistently with the batch of ROMs I have got. I have tries NeoRageX, which worked well for some ROMs but not for other, Mame, which didn't seem to work for any and WinKawaks, which performed similarly to NeoRageX, but with different files. Nebula seems to work quite well, but I cant set it up to be the default emulator on Maximus Arcade. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have been using winkawaks with MA and it is finally working right.
You need to make sure you have the neogeo.zip file (the bios) in your rom folder.
First setup and play the game in winkawaks to make sure you have all of the settings the way you want, then use the MA menu to find the winkawaks.exe file and pick the rom directory and you should be all set.

You may want to find a new rom, I found that my Sam. Showdown rom was old and had to find a newer one that worked.
I hope this helps.

That may help, I didn't know about the neogeo.zip file. Thanks :D

Did you download a full set of the roms. I'm a bit of a compulsive collector and don't like to have incomplete sets of roms when I know there are full sets out there. If you did, where did you get it from?

Each emulator has to have the roms named in a certain format. Make sure that you are using the right rom set with the right emulator.

I think thats my main problem now, I used Romcenter to rename all my files to how it thought it should be named, but half of them didnt work.... So now I'm stuck half and half. May have to download them again... GRRRRRRR

I believe WinKawaks and Nebula will both use MAME naming conventions. Some games for NeoRage require different names.
