What was the last movie you've seen?

Sweet. Where did you study film? I've always deterred away from film school as although I have a huge interest, I think it would ruin some movie experiences by the simple fact of "switching it off" so to speak.

I'm preeeety sure this is already post-production. But...When does "Jason vs. Saw. vs. Alien vs. Michael vs. Predator" come out?

I studied film at The Art Institutes, although I wanted to go to Columbia, I didn't want loans that large. It's hard enough finding work without having good "ins." I was always interested in film though, and going to school was really just to give me a leg up for finding work. I did a lot of shorts while a school since I had access to equipment (albeit extremely limited access) but they were all tied to classes/instructor's desires/lazy classmates who just wanted to scrape by. I've been saving up to get some of my own equipment and keep doing shorts. Unfortunately all the big movie work around here is pretty much reserved for union workers, and I am having a hell of a hard time trying to get a union connection.

Welcome to the film industry. The other popular option is getting into working on indies. What do you like to do on set?

I am freelance videographer/photographer, I use to be full time but had a shitty bit of life so I took a 9-5 to get things straightened out. I might be shooting bald eagles and wolves for NatGeo in the near future - if they dont want it I plan on putting up some of the images and stills here. We are taking my Lumix GH1 with a dozen primes from 100mm to 2000mm equivalent, an XF300 with a telephoto lens on it that I do not know the focal length for (not mine), and a 8mm film camera with a 300 mm telephoto because it will fit in the case and hopefully the footage will look cool.

I will gladly do anything on set if they pay me. I've been looking at lots of indie stuff and tried to get in on some but the problem is all the indie work I'm finding around here wants to pay me with food or experience only, neither of which can pay my bills. I've been also looking around for 9-5 type jobs so I can pay bills and save up for equipment to do freelance, but haven't had any luck with that either.

The NatGeo shoots sounds awesome! I have a lot more experience with digital than actual film, but anything I shoot with digital I do everything I can to give it a film look, shoot in 24fps, etc.

Not including anything on Noise's mind. I meant within reason.

What is your area of expertise then? Gaffing? Sound? Operating? Lighting? etc? If you do get around to a real gig, even as a PA, work your tail off. People will take notice. My little brother started as a PA three years ago and is now an operator and works often - he just got back in from Canada from a shoot actually, just meaning a few minutes ago.

Last time I used that camera was when I was in Highschool. My oldest brother used it on a shoot recently so I know it works, but its been a long time since I shot film. Itll be fun, and look like 70s home movies.

Ive noticed that some people in the industry suggest getting grads to get into webseries now, since some of the people that create them move on to do big things and most of them can be done for a low cost. Personally I want to create a new set of Republic Era Serials, but that is something atleast a couple years down the road. Just know, when you see a new rocketman serial, it should be mine.

I don't have enough actual on set experience to consider myself as having an area of expertise, but sound design and lighting come most naturally to me, especially sound design. I would have no problem being a PA and I make it a priority to work my ass of in any job, it's just getting a gig I'm having real trouble with.

The web series thing is interesting. I haven't heard that suggested before so I'll look more into it and see if anyone's doing any around here. I heard lots of other students mentioning web series while I was in school but none of them actually got off the ground.

I do some freelance soccer videography for a small company with their own equipment around here every time I can but they have trouble getting booked. They did say if they get bigger I have a standing full-time offer, so at least that's something.
