The question I think should be asked, especially when it comes to remakes such as the Nightmare on Elm Street. Does CGI kill horror movies?

I think the remake had potential and I stretch out pretty loose because there were scenes of special effects I seen that I enjoyed such as when she was running down a hall and suddenly the entire floor turned into blood.

In the first nightmae on elm street movie with the 10 dollar piece of stretching cloth and a light vs the remake's CGI where a computerized Freddy stretches out and gets a close up and poses himself in the sleeping girl ( I forgot the character's name it's been so long )

yeah that scene looked much better in the orginal. I can't say if CGI "kills a movie," but in this specific case, it fell flat.

What horror movies have you seen that use CGI that made the movie where as special effects probably wouldn't have lived up to it. I dont' mean like background *aka blue screen* but like special effects, monsters.

Trying hard to think of other movies, I remember they made a horror movie of a CGI dog and it was just too fake looking to even take it seriously and like you said, it fell flat.

I'm trying to think if there's a boundry between a movie that is a horror movie and that is a thriller. Sorry if this sounds like rambling but I'm thinking of the movie with Christopher Walker "The Dead Zone" because I don't think the movie was really scary but it got you tensed up.

I'm sorry for using this to promote something but do you guys know about The ABC's Of Death? Is a 26 short-film compilation in which many directors from all around the world dedicate a letter to a death, for example "T for Toilet" or "A for Animal Attack". The list of directors is huge, there's Ti West (The House Of The Devil), Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Angela Bettis (May, Scar 3D, The Woman), Srdjan Spasojevic (A Serbian Film, lets just hope he doesn't puts skullfucking or necrophilia in this one ), Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are), Banjong Pisanthanakun (Shutter), etc.

oh I loved Slither! Games Gunn at his best. Great cast and a loving tribute to schlock as far reaching as Slugs, Night of the Creeps and The Thing.

Moving on to the sequel. I gotta admit, when I first saw this movie years ago, I didn't like it. I didn't hate it or anything, but I just really didn't like it. And to tell you the truth, and I know some of you will probably disagree with me, but I still dislike this one the most out of the three.


Oh, Here we go

It's not that the movie doesn't have any scary moments. It does. It managed to make me jump and that car scene still makes me twitch with unease every time I see it. It's not that it has a poor script. I think it's just about as witty as the first one. It's not that it has bad direction either (hell, it even has another Freddy Kruger reference). In fact, out of the first 3 (haven't seen the 4th) it has some of the most beautifully shot scenes


I seriously loved this whole sequence. The plays I went to in school certainly never looked this good. They could have tailored her toga a bit, though.

I've put some thought into it, and I guess subconsciously it's the little things I don't like. For one, you don't care enough about the new characters. Yeah, most of them are there for the sake of being killed, but hell, I felt worse when Henry Winkler died in the last movie and he had a fraction of the screen time. Even Sarah Michelle Gellar's death did little to me and I really like her.


This fills me with more emotion than her death scene. Having her watch Nosferatu before getting wacked was a nice touch though.


Another thing that bothered me is they killed off my favorite character.


Yup. Can't pull a 'Dewey' and come back from that. Damn.

Sure he broke the movie rules, but we don't learn that until later. As far as this movie is concerned he just did something stupid and wandered off by himself while taunting a pissed-off killer. Shouldn't he have known better? He knew what happened last time. Stay in the middle of the crowed quad!

Not that he's the only one who let a sporadic case of bravery get the better of them. Gale Weathers managed to do the impossible and find the one room on campus the killer couldn't manage to get into


What? The doors jammed and I'm protected behind unbreakable glass? I think I'll stay right here.

Only to wander out and get shot for her efforts.

The only new character that I did manage to feel sorry for is Derek. And really, how can you not feel sorry for Derek. Sure he was a big sap, but look at all the poor guy had to go through.

First he's trying to sooth a continually traumatized girlfriend. Then he valiantly tries to defend her, only to then be added to a long list of suspects. Some of them were more probable than others.


Yeah, can't imagine why anybody would be suspicious of you, Cotton.

And that's one thing they do well in this movie: Give you plenty of suspects. You're suspicious of everybody right up til the end. They do a good job of keeping you guessing in this movie. Could it be the roommate? That would be unexpected. Or is it the film student? The wrongly incarcerated man? Did Gail finally snap? Could it be the boyfriend? No, that was done before. They wouldn't be that cheap...Or would they?


The answer to that last question is no.

So despite my initial dislike, upon my more recent viewing I have to admit that this movie is better than how I initially received it. It's still my least favorite, but it does have some spectacular moments and for that I'm happily surprised.

So I just watched Nightmare on Elm Street in its entirety for the first time....and didn't really much care for it. The concept is interesting, the effects are stellar, but the directing, music, pacing, and general plot are not very good. It is most certainly a step down from Last House on the Left, and a reminder of why I couldn't really get into the series in the past. I'll persevere through a least a few more, though...

yeah I do disagree. Scream 2 is much better than 3 in my opinion. It's not perfect by any means, but it's still fun (even if silly) and still has some good scares. Throw in miss Buffy for good measure.

finally watched Ep. 2 of American Horror Story last night. Really enjoyed it! I have Ep. 3 on my DVR as well.
