Would it be safe to get a duo (as opposed to a duo r) if the capacitors have been replaced to fix the sound issue?

Or would I be destined for another problem in the future?

From my limited knowledge, you should be okay. The new capacitors would be NEW and way more likely to last another 20+ years. Also, if I remember right, the quality of the original capacitors used in the original Duo was not high. Replacements would up the quality hopefully, making them BETTER than way back in 1992.

Cool, that's good to hear.

Thanks man!

I'm still waiting a bit on my purchase, though not by choice. The one I linked earlier in the thread sold before I was ready (money wise) to plunk down for it.

Now there are two more listed, but they're both boxed, so of course the price has gone up accordingly. One of them is a standard Duo though, so I wanted to be sure just in case I ended up going that route.

I'm determined to buy one from doujindance because of his rgb mods.

Nice - I love that seller. Keep your eye out for inexpensive multitaps from him also.

Is it even possible to acquire a Hucard Converter anymore? I can't find one anywhere. Also, is The Legend of Hero Tonma any good?

They're always $75+ when they show up on ebay as nobody has made any in a long time. Before I'd gotten my Duo I just said screw it and bought a Core Grafx for a lot less than the stupid convertor was going to cost.

Stupid question:

My system is still in transit (it hit customs in LA on the 26th, don't know if its still there or moved on yet or what) but while I'm waiting I figured I should ask about power.

I thought I read that Japan has a very similar power standard to the US, but I'm not going to pretend to know jack about that subject. So the question is, will the adapter that's coming with the system be safe to use, or will I need to get a hold of something else?

I'm sure that's very stupid of me and all, but it'd be even more stupid to just take a chance.

The power brick may say 110v or may say 110-125 when it arrives. If it says 110 only, it will still work fine in a US socket, it will just run slightly warmer. It will probably shorten the life a little, but as long as you don't have terrible fluctuating power, leave it plugged in all the time, and don't leave it baking under a pile of laundry it should be fine. I haven't had any issues with my J-Duo brick but I only plug it in when I'm playing.
