Re: Fitocracy
This sounds kind of neat, lol.
Insanity sounds nice, but is it one where you NEED to be in shape before attempting it CFFJR? That is the very definition of P90X right there. I tried the first two days out and think I almost died, I also seriously wonder if it helped cause my hernia last year... lol. But yeah the first session was 60 minutes of various pushups and arm bar pullups, nonstop. May as well bench press your car while you're at it.

I wouldn't exactly say you need to be in decent shape beforehand, but it would certainly help.
The main difference between P90x and Insanity is that Insanity is almost pure cardio. The only weight you'll be lifting is your own body weight, which I can assure you is more than enough.
The first night you start it, you're not supposed to do the regular workout. Rather, you do a 20 minute shortened workout that is intended to test your limits. You record the number of repetitions you hit for each exercise, with the idea of doing it again at the end of the 60 day program and comparing your progress.
That first night doing that 20 minute workout, I was so out of breath just halfway through that I felt like I was suffocating. My wife was no better. We had to take a break. It was hard, but we finished it.
Then you begin the regular program, which is about 45 minutes a day for the first month, and about double that in the second month. Again, its hard, but the payoff is immediately noticeable.
We stuck with it though, and it quickly became easier within a couple of days. By the time we got to day 30, I would have easily smashed my own records on that first workout and spat in its face.
I think that overall even if you're in good shape its gonna kick your butt at the start, but it would certainly help to build up to it rather than start cold the way I did. Its still doable though, make no mistake.
If you have asthma or something though, I wouldn't recommend it.

I work out regularly but I'd still like to join this!
Working out is always more fun with more people, even if their only with you in spirit.

PM'd ya.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Re: Fitocracy
That all sounds really cool honestly and something I should look into whenever I have a normal schedule again (it really is hard for me to keep up with working out when I'm not doing anything else =\...)CFFJR wrote:Insanity ... THIS IS MADNESS
Cardio is definitely what I want to work on most when I get back into shape, at least initially to build up that energy again. I've already put on enough pounds since my high school days as well, so not too worried about that... I'm sure some muscle and definition would come in time doing some workouts like that stuff. Heck in one of my yoga workouts there was one position where you'd use very small dumbbell weights (like 5-10lbs), yet it was the most intense and awesome triceps workout I've ever done. So it's all about the form and whatnot, heh.
So yeah, unlike last year I'd rather not get obsessed with the looks and overdoing it. I just want to get a routine down someday and keep in shape just to be healthy.

If anyone else is really liking this Racketboy Retro Workout idea, let me know and I'll add you to the admin list. That way people can get into the group without waiting for me to get online.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Are there any more invites left? I need some butt kicking to get back into shape the way I was before I got married. I'll have to buy some new workout duds this weekend since the stuff I have all have paint/holes/etc from projects around the house.

Re: Fitocracy
Our bodies are already in a state of metabolism confusion by eating foods we weren't evolved to eat. The introduction of cereal grains into mans diet 10,000 years ago is more or less responsible for heart diseases, cancers, obesity, diabetes and a host of other health related problems. Pre-agricultural man would have almost never have suffered from these conditions (and this is easily proven through extensive biological, evolutionary and anthropological research).mjmjr25 wrote:Almost any drastic change in eating habits will drastically change your body weight...temporarily. I started doing that about 6 weeks ago and am already seeing positive results.
I wont go into extra detail unless someone wants me too, I don't want to hijack the thread.
While it is impossible to completely mimic the diets of our ancestors, you would do wonders to your health to at least try.
